Job Purpose




Under the direction of the Assistant General Manager, the Base Manager manages and directs all activities related to the management of staff and day-to-day operations of the Stony Rapids terminal.

Primary Responsibilities



Base Management



Oversee all operations of Snowbird Aviation Services in Stony Rapids: + Passenger Check-in system
+ Ground Handling system
+ Fuelling system
+ De-icing system
Ensure consistent and superior customer service through awareness of customer needs, and trends. Ensure staff schedules are created and posted as per Snowbird Aviation Services standard, including updated employee availability and processing employee time off requests. Ensure base supplies are ordered and stocked as per need. Maintain a positive attitude towards customers and staff within a fast-paced work environment. Ensure ground support equipment is maintained as per Snowbird Aviation Services standard. Responsible for the performance and productivity of base staff, including coaching and performance reviews. Ensure compliance with and enforcement of policies and procedures as established by the Company, legislation and related regulations. Provide oversight of staff and/or contracted companies with respect to fuel operations and mange operational ordering and balancing of fuel/propane for all bases. Communicate regularly with Dispatch and coordinate charter/schedule flights. Responsible for management of day-to-day activities based upon established standard operating procedures, legislation and related regulations. Build relationships through training, safety compliance, and customer care through regular staff meetings.

Ground Operations



Ensure flight logs, manifests and weight and balance are finalized and forwarded to appropriate departments in a timely and efficient manner to keep statistical reporting accurate. Ensure equipment used inside and outside including, but not limited to, office and telecommunications, ground power units, safety equipment, baggage carts, and tugs are in safe working order. Analyse issues and establish operational priorities; identify gaps and/or changes required to standard operating procedures and internal policies and procedures and communicate to applicable personnel.

General Responsibilities



Develop and maintain knowledge of the company's vision, mission, and values. Participate in special projects as required. Continuously update job knowledge by participating in training and other educational opportunities. Protect Company values by keeping information confidential. Provide after hours on call coverage during evenings and weekends on a rotational basis as part of the team. Determine staff requirements and development by assisting in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new employees. Foster a team-based environment through collaborative working relationships. Develop effective team building initiatives. Ensure optimal communication with all employees and internal partners. Analyze issues and establish operational priorities; identify gaps and/or changes required to standard operating procedures and internal policies and procedures and communicate to applicable personnel. Provide feedback in budget preparation and manage operations to ensure the provision of cost-effective services. Maintain current knowledge of all Transport Canada rules, regulations and policies.

Education and Experience:



High school diploma. Valid Class 5 Drivers license. WHMIS and Dangerous Goods Awareness Training. Previous employment or training in aviation would be an asset with four to five year's progressive supervisory/management experience. Post-secondary education in business management is an asset.

+ Tariffs, and Firearms Manual.
+ Any addition regulatory requirements.
Exceptional customer service and relationship building skills. Strong interpersonal skills in fostering relationships and working with employees and customers at all organizational levels. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated high work standard related to accuracy, timeliness, completeness and confidentiality. Effective leadership skills and ability to work as part of and develop a large team. Effective conflict resolution skills with customers and colleagues. Highly effective organizational skills. Able and willing to work on modified schedules, including early mornings, late nights, and holidays. Ability to obtain and maintain a Provincial driver's license and an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP).

Equipment Used



Ground Power Unit, Lavatory Cart. Tractor Tug and related ground handling equipment. Forklift, De-icing equipment, aircraft fueling equipment. Radio base unit. Standard office and telecommunications equipment.

Typical Physical and Cognitive Demands



Able to prioritize and organize objectives and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment. Must quickly adapt to changing assignments. Required to act professionally and use mature judgment. Able to work long and sometimes irregular hours under different weather conditions. Ability to lift 70 pounds. Physically fit, able to safely undertake physically demanding tasks including handling customer luggage and freight. Able to safely move and provide varied ground services to aircraft and equipment. Able to work on elevated work platforms. Occasional ground and/or air travel required.

Shift Requirements:



Shift will be rotational 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off. Flexibility to work during the rotational schedule. Transportation will be catered for from Saskatoon to Stony Rapids, if needed.
