The Students' Association of Olds College (SAOC) is mandated to promote the general welfare of students and to provide for the administration of student services, and one of our key student services is food & beverage operations. To that end, the
Bartender
supports the daily operations of The Crossing Restaurant Front of House. Reporting to the FOH Supervisor and Crossing Manager, the Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, managing the restaurant's bar inventory, and acting as the sole point of control for the cash register during their shift. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and takes pride in customer service, accuracy, and accountability. Experience in bartending is an asset, but training will be provided. Above all, the Bartender should demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude.
Objective of this Role:
Deliver timely and courteous beverage service in a manner consistent with The Crossing's standards.
Maintain accurate liquor inventory and uphold all AGLC regulations and SAOC alcohol service policies.
Ensure safe and secure handling of the restaurant cash register.
Support a positive and inclusive dining environment that reflects the values of SAOC.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages efficiently and safely.
Check customer ID to ensure legal age for alcohol consumption.
Maintain full responsibility for the restaurant cash register during shift
Be the only person on shift (other than the FBM or Crossing Manager) authorized to access the cash till.
Maintain bar cleanliness, organization, and stock levels throughout service.
Track and report liquor and beer usage; identify low stock and prevent over-pouring or waste.
Ensure the bar is fully stocked, including garnishes, glassware, and other essentials.
Maintain accurate records of daily pours, waste, and breakage.
Follow Alberta liquor laws and all AGLC regulations.
Provide recommendations on drink pairings and upsell premium items when appropriate.
Follow all opening and closing procedures for the bar and POS system.
Participate in catering or bar service at SAOC events
Provide excellent service and contribute to a positive FOH culture.
Delivering food from the kitchen to the guests;
Ensuring the food order is made correctly by kitchen staff and looks presentable for guests;
Follow all steps of service in best practices documentation beyond those described in this job description.
Participate in concession service at athletic and campus events as scheduled.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience in bartending or beverage service in a licensed environment
ProServe certification (required)
ProTect and Food Safe certifications (must be willing to acquire)
Strong numeracy and accuracy with cash handling and POS systems
Familiarity with AGLC liquor laws and best practices
Ability to follow instructions, work efficiently, and support a team-oriented environment.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
Trustworthy with money and inventory

About SAOC:
SAOC is an independent, non-partisan statutory corporation which operates in a not-for-profit fashion. We are incorporated by the Post-Secondary Learning Act to provide for the administration of student services and the promotion of the general welfare of the students of Olds College, who are our members. Our Board of Directors and Executive Council are Olds College students elected by their peers to serve one-year terms and set the strategic direction for the organization. This working board operates collaboratively with the Executive Director and core staff. The SAOC has four primary departments: governance, administration, food & beverage, and student experience. Our primary revenue source is membership fees, but we also own and operate two on-campus food service facilities, The Crossing Restaurant and Bloom Cafe.
