Job Overview:

The Students' Association of Olds College (SAOC) is mandated to promote the general welfare of students and to provide for the administration of student services, and one of our key student services is food & beverage operations. To that end, the

Barista

supports the daily operations of Bloom Cafe. Reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager (FBM) and Cafe Supervisor, the Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee, tea, and light food items while delivering friendly and efficient customer service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and is excited to contribute to cafe service. Experience in food and beverage service is an asset, but training will be provided. Above all, the Barista should demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a collaborative attitude.

Objectives of this Role



Deliver friendly, accurate, and timely service in a manner consistent with the SAOC's food & beverage standards. Maintain a clean and efficient cafe environment that supports safe food and beverage handling. Support a positive and inclusive atmosphere at Bloom Cafe. Follow all health, safety, and licensing regulations as they relate to coffee, and food.

Key Responsibilities:



Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas, and specialty beverages to order. Operate cafe equipment (espresso machine, grinder, blender, etc.) safely and with care. Greet customers, take orders accurately, and provide thoughtful recommendations. Assist with light food preparation such as sandwiches, paninis, and baked goods. Maintain cleanliness of service counters, seating areas, and equipment throughout the shift. Follow all proper food handling procedures, including labelling, storing, and rotating stock. Process payments using the POS system; handle cash and card transactions accurately. Track low stock and communicate ordering needs to the FBM or designated supervisor. Follow opening, mid-day, and closing procedures for the cafe. Participate in concession service at athletic and campus events as scheduled. Comply with all AHS regulations, SAOC policies, and brand standards. Continuously strive to enhance product knowledge and customer service skills to provide personalized recommendations and ensure customer satisfaction. Offer menu recommendations upon request;Up-sell additional products when appropriate; Follow all steps of service in best practices documentation beyond those described in this job description.

Skills and Qualifications:



Experience in coffee service or customer-facing food & beverage role is an asset Strong customer service and cash handling skills ProServe certification is an asset Food Safety certification (required or willing to obtain) Friendly, professional, and approachable Reliable and punctual with strong attention to cleanliness and detail Able to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced setting

Wages & benefits:



$15.00 Tip pool Flexible schedule

Position type:

Part-time, temporary (contract ends April 24, 2026 with the possibility of renewal).

About SAOC:

SAOC is an independent, non-partisan statutory corporation which operates in a not-for-profit fashion. We are incorporated by the Post-Secondary Learning Act to provide for the administration of student services and the promotion of the general welfare of the students of Olds College, who are our members. Our Board of Directors and Executive Council are Olds College students elected by their peers to serve one-year terms and set the strategic direction for the organization. This working board operates collaboratively with the Executive Director and core staff. The SAOC has four primary departments: governance, administration, food & beverage, and student experience. Our primary revenue source is membership fees, but we also own and operate two on-campus food service facilities, The Crossing Restaurant and Bloom Cafe. The SAOC and its subsidiaries are currently located at 4500 50 St, Olds AB T4H 1R6.
