Almanac Bakery & Cafe is looking for warm, energetic, and detail-oriented Front of House (FOH) Baristas to join our new cafe team.

As a FOH Barista, you'll be responsible for preparing exceptional coffee and food and maintaining a welcoming and professional front-of-house environment. This role combines hands-on barista work with thoughtful customer interaction and teamwork to bring Almanac's values to life.

What You'll Be Doing

Prepare espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee, and specialty beverages with accuracy and care. Assemble and serve light food items such as sandwiches, quiches, and pastries. Deliver friendly, thoughtful service that makes customers feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated. Open and close the cafe, ensuring stations, counters, and retail displays are clean, organized, and well-stocked. Restock retail shelves, fridges, and freezers throughout the day. Maintain product displays that reflect care, consistency, and attention to detail. Share knowledge about coffee, baked goods, and Almanac's house-milled flour with customers. Contribute to seasonal drink and menu ideas in collaboration with the FOH Manager. Participate in daily cleaning and sanitization tasks to maintain a safe and welcoming space. Support community events, pop-ups, or workshops when needed.

What You Bring

2+ years of barista experience (experience in boutique or specialty coffee shops preferred). Strong technical barista skills, such as dialling in espresso, steaming milk, and creating consistent beverages. A deep appreciation for hospitality and creating warm, positive customer interactions. Calm and composed under pressure, with the ability to multitask gracefully during rushes. Reliable, punctual, and organized, with a strong attention to detail. Team-oriented. communicative and thrives in a small, collaborative environment. Comfortable standing for long periods and performing light physical work (lifting up to 25 lbs). Food Handler's certificate (or willingness to obtain after hire). Experience with POS and inventory systems (Clover, Shopify, or Google Sheets is an asset).

Work Environment and Expectations

Fast-paced cafe with a warm, community-driven atmosphere. Early mornings, weekends, and holidays may be required. Standing for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks and lifting up to 25 lbs. Uniform or dress code provided. Approximately 100 customers per day expected at full operation. Flexibility, communication, and a positive attitude are key to success.
