Ruth and Naomi's Mission has been serving the Chilliwack community for over 20 years. From handing out sandwiches to those in need, we've grown to three locations with over 100 staff providing shelter, recovery, meals, and support programs 24/7. Each day, we serve over 500 meals, offer shelter for 200+ people, and walk alongside individuals in our bed-based recovery programs.
As a Christian faith-based organization, our mission is to transform lives through the love of God, offering hope, dignity, and community to people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction.
About Ruth's Coffee
Ruth's Coffee is our social enterprise cafe located in downtown Chilliwack. In addition to serving excellent coffee and baked goods, we provide hands-on job training for Employment Program participants while creating a welcoming, community-oriented space.
About the Role - Barista
We are looking for a friendly, reliable Barista to join our team at Ruth's Coffee. This role focuses on high-quality customer service, beverage preparation, and supporting program participants as they learn new workplace skills. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, brings positive energy, and thrives in a mission-driven setting.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare quality beverages and food items
Provide warm and welcoming customer service
Support daily coffee shop operations including POS use, cash handling, stocking, cleaning, and inventory
Model professionalism and support Employment Program participants as they learn cafe skills
Maintain cleanliness and uphold all health and safety standards
Contribute to a positive, trauma-informed, team-oriented atmosphere
Qualifications
6+ months cafe or food-service experience preferred
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Experience supporting or mentoring others an asset
FoodSafe Level 1 required (or willingness to obtain)
Compensation & Schedule
$17.85/hour (minimum wage)
Part-time or full-time options available (schedule TBD based on coffee shop needs)
RRSP matching after successful probation (for full-time employees)
