Working with the Banquet and Culinary Supervisors, the Banquet and Facilities Steward helps to ensure that the banquet and restaurant facilities are clean, organized and maintained to an excellent standard.
This role will complete about 20-30 hours per week, and shifts will fall mostly in the evening and on weekends. This role will have limited customer-facing time and will require a strong and independent person to be successful.
Duties and responsibilities:
Event Setup and Breakdown: Set up tables, chairs, linens, glassware, and other necessary items for banquets and events according to diagrams or instructions. This may also involve moving furniture and equipment. After events, the steward will dismantle and store these items.
General Cleaning: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and polishing floors, furniture, and other surfaces.
Restroom Cleaning and Maintenance: Ensuring restrooms are clean, stocked with supplies, and sanitized.
Waste Disposal: Emptying trash and recycling bins and ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
Surface Cleaning and Sanitizing: Cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces, including counters, tables, and equipment, to maintain a hygienic environment.
Preventative Maintenance: Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the banquet department's preventative maintenance programs.
The ideal candidate for this role has:
At least one year of experience working in a commercial cleaning role, or as a banquet steward.
Dedicated to always maintaining an excellent standard of cleaning and sanitization.
Able to read, write and communicate in an English working environment.
Able to withstand extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions.
Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as overtime from time to time.
Able to manage time efficiently.
Able to pay strong attention to detail.
Able to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, aligning with dress code guidelines.
Holds a valid Serving it Right certification (nice to have).
Holds or is willing to work towards a WHIMS certification (nice to have).
Holds or is willing to work towards a FOODSAFE certification (nice to have).
Holds or is willing to work towards holding a First Aid, Level 1 certification (nice to have).
