Job Description

Alberta Ballet is seeking an experienced ballet teacher to cover a maternity leave starting in January 2026. The position will be part-time hourly and will provide our community classes programming between January to June. There is also the potential to extend the contract for delivery of summer camps (July/August) and into the 2026/27 dance season

Term Contract Dates: January 2026 to June 2026

Schedule:

Classes will occur Tuesday evenings and Saturdays from January 2026 to June 2026.

Purpose:

The Ballet Teacher will provide ballet classes to students of multiple ages and abilities in Community Classes utilizing Alberta Ballet's system of training. Teachers provide students with quality instruction in a caring and engaging environment that promotes creativity and expression, joy of movement and music and develops a lifelong appreciation for dance and the arts.

Instructional Duties

Plan and teach ballet classes to students of multiple ages and abilities in AB classes following the vision and goals described by Alberta Ballet's leadership and Community division. Follow the Alberta Ballet curriculum and system of training. Maintain appropriate staff/student relationships. Attend performances and photo days as required. Produce written assessments on student progress. Record and report on student attendance. Ensure a caring, inclusive, and inspiring environment.

Non-Instructional Duties

Assist the school and students with photo days. Attend/supervise rehearsals and performances which include the students. Attend Year-End Performance (YEP) rehearsals/performances. Attend staff meetings and training as required.

Qualifications & Key Competencies

Experience teaching a wide range of levels from six (6) years of age to adult. Experience as a professional ballet dancer/ teacher. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build good supportive relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider dance community Flexible attitude towards duties and working patterns in order to fulfill the requirements of the role Empathy with and a commitment to the aims and ethics of the organization Willing to participate in teacher development programs when scheduled An ability to prepare choreographed dances

Working Conditions / physical requirements

This job is performed at the school in a variety of settings


o Teaching - standing for extended periods of time, repetitive movements, demonstrating dance

o Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching

o Speaking for extended periods of time, voice and speech indicating tempo, rhythm, and quality
As a performing arts organization, there will be projects and pursuits that may require time beyond the typical work schedule including evening and weekends for performances and recitals. Employees are expected to comply with all safety regulations. Successful completion of a criminal record and vulnerable sectors check.
