The Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre, located at 45 Ochterloney Street, is a non-profit, member-supported organization with a 50-year history of delivering essential support to seniors and the Dartmouth community. We are looking for an experienced Baker/Cook's Assistant to work in our on-site kitchen.
Purpose:
To report to and support the head cook by preparing bakery items and meals while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Hours of work:
30-35 hours a week
Compensation:
$17.00 per hour, 2 weeks' paid vacation, and the opportunity to receive benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities
Produce bakery products such as bread, pies, cakes, pastries, quick breads, cinnamon rolls, muffins, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, desserts and other sweet treats.
Food prep, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning foods. Food prep also includes measuring and mixing ingredients according to recipes to ensure consistency and quality in bakery items and cooked meals.
Prepare sandwiches and sauces.
Aid in the cooking process, which may involve operating equipment such as ovens, mixers and blenders.
Plate food for service and prepare shrink-wrapped food for the 'Meals on Wheels' program.
Take direction from the head cook.
Assist the head cook with monitoring food supplies, restocking ingredients, and notifying the head cook when inventory is low.
Contribute creative ideas and feedback informed by experience and knowledge.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen by cleaning work areas, washing dishes, and ensuring that all kitchen tools and equipment are sanitized and stored properly.
Follow food safety and sanitation regulations to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patrons' health and safety.
Take responsibility for the health and safety of the kitchen team.
Regularly check that the equipment and work areas are kept spotless.
Keep abreast of and comply with the latest health and safety laws and regulations.
Skills and Qualifications
Proven ability to bake and produce bakery products.
Proven ability to work with the team to create delicious meals.
Experience as an assembly line cook or experience in a commercial kitchen.
Experience with meal prep.
Ability to multitask and manage a high-pressure environment.
Proven ability to follow or exceed organizational standards.
