**This posting is for one (1) Part-Time ongoing position**

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) requires one (1) highly organized, dedicated individual to work with the Recruiting Section. The responsibilities for this position are:

  • Reviewing completed applications and related forms, including but not limited to; interview forms, psychological assessments, medical assessments and polygraph reports. Assessing for completeness, accuracy, inconsistencies, errors, omissions, and falsifications.
  • Reviewing records from other Law Enforcement Agencies to determine if the applicant was a witness, victim, suspect or accused of any crime.
  • Obtaining and reviewing arrest reports, witness statements, and other documents to determine if the applicant has the appropriate background to be offered employment. Obtaining and reviewing credit reports and evaluating financial responsibility.
  • Interviewing and preparing detailed and complete interview statements for employers, co-workers, friends, law enforcement officials, military personnel, members of the candidate's family and personal listed and non-listed references. Regularly scheduling and conducting in-person interviews with the applicant's partner/spouse/common-law.
  • Assessing the totality of the application and preparing specific interview questions to assess and mitigate risk.
  • Assessing applicants through a risk-based perspective and making a reasoned and logical recommendation for hire.
  • Organizing all investigative material in accordance with established procedures and privacy legislation.
  • Liaising with Case File Managers and candidates to keep them informed of the status of the investigation.
  • Measuring the candidate's background against job dimensions set forth by the Alberta Police Provincial Standards.
  • Completing background packages for review by the selection committee and making a measured, objective recommendation.
  • Acting as an evaluator on Behaviour Descriptive Interview panels. Responsibilities include scheduling/conducting interviews, compiling detailed notes, providing constructive feedback and making a detailed, reasoned assessment of the applicant's performance, which ultimately determines if the applicant will continue in the hiring process.
  • Training newly assigned personnel, making presentations and educating groups concerning the background investigation process and scheduling and conducting evening Behaviour Descriptive Interview Workshops.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or University Degree. Related, relevant work experience may be considered in the absence of a Diploma or University Degree.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Recent Police Officer experience would be considered an essential asset.
  • Specialized training in Interview and Interrogation and Bias Awareness.
  • ISEP Level 100, 200, and 300 investigators courses would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the selection standards as set forth by the Standardization of Police Recruit Selection for Alberta.
  • Experience working with confidentiality laws.
  • Experience analyzing complex ideas and information and presenting findings in a concise understandable format, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently to combine investigations to ensure timely completion.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.

Hours of Work:

0.0 - 36.9 hours per week as required. No guaranteed hours.

Salary Range:

95M, Salary Grade: PT1, $65,719 - $103,585 (Annually).
