Running a dental practice is about more than great patient care--it's about building a thriving, sustainable business. But the front desk is where clinics lose the most time, money, and momentum.

Dental clinics are drowning in front-desk admin work. Their staff spends 30-40 hours every month calling insurance companies. They miss calls that cost the clinic over $150K+ in annual production. Patients wait days for treatment plans. Patient care gets interrupted.

Since our launch in January 2025, we're growing and serving over 30 clinics with recurring revenue. We focus on automating insurance verification and reception workflows, integrating with legacy systems, processing complex data to help clinics recover revenue while freeing staff for patient care.

At Kindr, you'll build mission-critical, production-grade systems in a team oriented, collaborative and dynamic environment where your role makes a direct real-world impact. We often get compliments on how our software is making the receptions workday better.

The Role

We're looking for a Backend Engineer who thrives on hands-on coding, addressing and resolving ambiguous situations, and guiding a small technical team.

The Responsibilities

60% Hands-On Code:

Build and maintain complex API integrations with insurance portals and dental practice management systems Design data extraction and transformation pipelines for wildly inconsistent data formats Own backend architecture, event management, and session handling Work with AI/LLM integrations for automation and conversational AI Design system architecture and create technical documentation

40% Leadership:

Lead and mentor 1-2 developers (code reviews, architecture decisions, growth) Shape our technical roadmap and make build vs. buy decisions Work directly with the founders to make a real impact and influence on company strategy
Current Stack: Python, Azure, SQL, LLM, TTS, STT models (other strong technical opinions welcome)

What We're Looking For

Must Have:

6+ years building backend systems (APIs, data pipelines, third-party integrations) 2+ years of technical mentorship experience (small team) Comfortable solving ambiguous and complex problems Strong communication skills (written/verbal) with the ability to simplify technical terms Analytical, critical thinking and organizational skills Team oriented, collaborative and customer focused Passionate about championing new initiatives, embracing change and being a key player in our shared success

Strong Preference:

Experience designing APIs from scratch and managing concurrent events AI/LLM integration experience for data extraction or automation Startup experience or healthcare/regulated industry exposure

Not a Fit:

Candidates seeking a large-team management or purely strategic role, frontend-focused engineers or individuals who need detailed specs before starting

Compensation & Benefits:

Base salary ranges from $100K - $140K dependent on experience, education, etc. with candidates typically starting within the minimum range. Benefits: Free dental benefits Flexible work, flex days and vacation Hybrid work (Calgary-based)

Located in and around Calgary, AB area Ability to work remotely with a home office and attend in office as required Travel within Calgary area (minimal) Legally authorized to work in Canada
