Your Role and Responsibilities
Come join our tea As an IBM Runtimes Open-Source Compiler team lead Developer, you will join the hundreds of developers actively contributing to our public GitHub projects, using industry standard tools like Git, ZenHub, Jenkins, and Slack. Our development lifecycle and activities, from concept to delivery, happen openly in collaboration with community developers and researchers and we support building your own developer identity and influence in the various programming languages and runtimes communities. As an IBM developer, you of course have access to the full range of IBM teams and technologies, so you are able to influence the whole stack optimization efforts in IBM, from hardware design to OS to language runtime to middleware to cloud and cloud native applications.

The IBM Java Runtimes development team is expert, enthusiastic, curious, and works in the C, C++, and Java programming languages. We work on a variety of processor architectures (x86, POWER, z/Architecture, ARM, RISC-V) and operating systems (Linux, Windows, macOS, AIX, z/OS). Our IBM Java (Semeru) runtime is the foundation of several thousand IBM products running in virtually every geography and industry; our customers include many of the world\xe2\x80\x99s largest corporations.

We are looking for an experienced Java Virtual Machine (VM) team lead developer who can drive the development for the IBM Java VM. Our Virtual Machine (VM) team focuses on optimizing the VM code, improving performance in cloud environments (small footprint, fast startup), implementing JDK Enhancement Proposals (JEPs) and other features required in future Java releases, and is breaking new ground innovating in a new paradigm for performant cloud-native Java runtimes.

This role requires deep low level programming programming skills, C/C+, platform skills (Linux, systems programming skills with platform background on Linux, x86, Power Z. Experience in Java Virtual Machines would be valuable.

While the team environment is highly collaborative and agile, team members are expected to operate with a level of autonomy and responsibility. Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Strong C/C++ skills
• Platform skills include Linux, IBM Z and or Power
• Systems programming skills
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Virtual Machine (VM) and Garbage collection.
• Strong interest in problem determination, quick prototyping, and iterative experimentation

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Experience with Open-source development tools and projects
• Excellent communication skills and proven ability in influencing open-source community developers, academic and industry partner
• Prior experience in Compilers, Runtimes, Operating Systems would be an asset but not required
