$39.34 Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.

Humber Polytechnic has established North America's first Broadcast-Broadband Convergence BC Lab--a world-class industry research center designed to explore multisectoral business applications enabled by the new ATSC 3.0 IP-based television broadcast standard.





About the B2C Lab Technologist Role:





The B2C Lab Technologist plays a key role in the operation and maintenance of North America's first Broadcast-Broadband Convergence BC Lab--a world-class industry research center designed to explore multisectoral business applications enabled by the new ATSC 3.0 IP-based television broadcast standard.



Reporting to the B2C Lab Applied Research Manager, the Technologist is responsible for configuring lab equipment, ensuring safety protocols, developing custom software solutions, and supporting project planning and execution. The role also involves direct collaboration with external industry partners and includes acting as Principal Investigator, providing scientific leadership, managing research teams, and ensuring project milestones and budgets are met.



Key Responsibilities:



Configure and set up lab use-case applications, studies, and tests, and ensuring the use-case are conducted and operated with the infrastructure as needed. Mount and adjust antennas on rooftop antenna masts, as required, ensure all safety equipment/gear is used and that safety procedures are followed. Set, manage, and monitor audio-visual and data links and specific media and data assets for each research use-case application deployed in the lab with faculty, industry partners and students. Install and test/calibrate new equipment incorporated for specific applications. Analyze and repair technical faults on equipment and systems. Keep up to date with the evolving standards in ATSC 3.0 and 5G by building and maintaining a network of contacts and investigating new systems and techniques applicable to lab development and innovation. Plan, coordinate, analyze, and develop new software applications and solutions using ATSC and may include 5G to combine the best of global data delivery standards. Minimize loss of service when equipment fails by quickly identifying and implementing alternative methods of service provision. Operate within the mandate of best practice standards in health and safety for the workplace and contributes to best practices ensuring the lab is a safe environment. Track lab assets (equipment, tools, and consumable materials) in a systematic inventory system to ensure the efficient use of lab assets. Help draft solutions and system architectures for novel applications. Trains research faculty and students on the safe and proper use of lab equipment. Plan, coordinate, analyze, and develop tailored project plans, methodologies, and deliverables for industry partner research projects. Act as Principal Investigator on lab research projects, responsible for the scientific leadership of the innovation on the project and leading the research team to execute projects according to project milestones and project budget.

Education




3 year diploma or degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Science Engineering

Experience/Skills





Minimum of three years experience in:



Industrial or research lab environment Internet protocol applications Audio, visual, data compression for IP networks including MPEG DASH IT cloud-based network architectures, software coding including, HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript and knowledge of audio/video CODEs
