The Azure Data Engineer plays a key role in building, maintaining, and optimizing structured SQL data assets that power analytics, reporting, and downstream integrations. This role supports the transition from ad-hoc data sources to governed, production-ready Azure and SQL platforms, ensuring reliable analytics, automation, and system integrations. Success in this role means delivering high-quality data solutions, partnering effectively with analytics and business teams, and contributing to Modern Niagara's data maturity.

  • Deliver trusted, well-structured, and performant SQL and Azure data assets that support analytics, reporting, and integrations.
  • Strengthen collaboration with analytics, IT, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver scalable data solutions.
  • Drive Modern Niagara's data maturity by automating manual processes, optimizing pipelines, and ensuring governance and data integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
SQL Development & Data Engineering (Core Focus)
  • Design, write, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and indexes within Azure SQL environments.
  • Build and maintain structured, analytics-ready datasets for reporting and downstream consumption.
  • Apply best practices in data modeling, schema design, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and performance-tune SQL workloads in production-like environments.
ETL / ELT & Cloud Data Pipelines
  • Design, enhance, and support ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Improve existing pipelines for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Transition manual or spreadsheet-based processes into automated SQL-backed pipelines.
Power Platform Enablement
  • Build, support, and maintain Power Platform solutions leveraging structured SQL data.
  • Develop and enhance Power Apps and Power Automate flows integrated with SQL/Azure assets.
  • Ensure Power Platform solutions are scalable, governed, and aligned with enterprise data models.
  • Support troubleshooting, enhancements, and optimization activities.
Analytics & Business Collaboration
  • Partner with analytics, data, and business teams to understand data requirements.
  • Ensure datasets used for analytics are accurate, well-structured, and performant.
  • Provide clear documentation and knowledge transfer throughout the contract.
Integration & Automation
  • Support workflow automation and system integrations when required.
  • Exposure to REST-based integrations, Power Automate, or Boomi is an asset.
  • Collaborate with system owners on integration needs intersecting with SQL and analytics platforms.
Must Haves:
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Developer, Data Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (Azure SQL / T-SQL), including query optimization and performance tuning.
  • Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT workflows in cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory (pipelines, datasets, integration runtimes).
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) using SQL/Azure-backed data sources.
  • Strong understanding of structured data design and data modeling.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
Nice to Haves:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with REST API integrations.
  • Exposure to Boomi or similar integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with C#/.NET in a data or integration context.
  • Experience with Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or related Azure services.
  • Knowledge of DevOps/CI-CD or Git-based deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other analytics tools.
This is a replacement position. Expected annual compensation; $74,000 - $90,000.
