Makkinga Contractors is seeking applications for a

full-time FLOAT DRIVER

position based in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of relevant experience, including

heavy haul floating

, operation of various types of heavy equipment, and mechanical skills. A valid AZ driver's license with a clean driving record and CVOR driver abstract.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct pre-trip inspections and general maintenance, reporting any defects to the supervisor. Load and unload heavy equipment using detachable goose neck floats, travelling axle trailers, deck type trailers and using jeep dollies. Secure loads per load security regulations. Transport loads across Northwestern Ontario, with potential destinations in Southern Ontario, the United States, and other provinces. Complete and maintain all necessary documentation, including the use of electronic logging devices. Adhere to Ministry of Transportation regulations, including oversize/overweight requirements. Operate tri-axle dump trucks, belly dumps, and end dumps to haul gravel, with the ability to self-load using a front-end loader or excavator. Promote safety by adhering to safety initiatives and procedures. Communicate effectively with supervisors, crews, and clients via two-way radio, cell phone, satellite phone, and email. Work independently or collaboratively as part of a team, maintaining professionalism with clients and coworkers.
