Position Overview

The Alberta Children\'s Hospital Research Unit in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Awards Advisor, CHW. This Full-time Fixed Term is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Awards Advisor is required to develop and maintain an overarching understanding of the research training and educational mandate of ACHRI and the Child Health and Wellness (CHW) initiative and support the Institute\'s leadership in facilitating and further developing research training within CHW. This role will involve working with both internal (UCalgary) and external parties, stakeholders, and agencies. Effective ongoing collaboration with the core work team of fellow ACHRI staff members and ACHRI leadership, ACHRI members and trainees within the University will be critical.

Reports to the Program Manager, ACHRU.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Program Development Support and Project Coordination in the context of research training and education of ACHRI and CHW:

Support Education Directors and Training and Education Manager in the development, and implementation of ACHRI\'s research training and education programs

Participate in strategic planning of novel education initiatives aimed at enriching student and fellow training experience and enhancing professional and career development of ACHRI and CWH trainees

Contribute to ongoing strategic assessment of the ACHRI training programs to determine their value in meeting the needs of the ACHRI and CHW educational mandate

Help identify and facilitate new collaborations and partnerships both internal and external to ACHRI to further the efforts of the training program

Provide professional services to other team members, internal and external to the ACHRI Training Program, providing guidance and knowledge transfer in training, procedures, and policy development

Support fundraising initiatives and work with the ACHRI team to create reports to donors as needed

Coordinate meetings, events and presentations as required

Work with the relevant communications teams to plan and develop marketing and communications pieces specific to the ACHRI training programs for the purpose of trainee and community engagement

Specific ACHRI STEP and LEAP Portfolio and Process Coordination:

Responsible for coordination of all trainee funding competitions and associated processes and committees

Responsible for management of trainee records, such as trainee database, award applications, and outcomes of training

Monitor training funding and budgeting resources, collaborating with the Training and Education Manager

Responsible for completion of all quarterly and annual reports related to the training program

Coordinate meetings of relevant committees; prepare and distribute agenda, minutes and supporting documents. Organize and prepare presentations and reports for meetings

Assist with content development for the ACHRI training program website

Assist with organizing trainee activities such as workshops, education sessions and prepare necessary materials

Other Responsibilities:

Support the ACHRI Training and Education team in organizing and preparation of presentations for meetings, such as townhalls and special events, with a focus on the ACHRI and CWH training programs

Work with the ACHRI core team to support events and activities as required

Carry out and synthesize background research as required

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor\'s Degree is required
  • Two or more years of related work experience, in areas such as education, training, HR, academic advising, research administration
  • A combination of related qualifications may be considered for this position
  • Ability to plan and direct administrative activities within a team environment
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative as appropriate
  • Attention to detail is critical
  • High aptitude for independent decision making and problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong writing skills. Demonstrated ability in writing and preparing reports for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills; conflict resolution skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) including SharePoint and Teams apps. Familiarity with other university software programs an asset
  • Knowledge of University core business and student service systems desirable
  • Experience in educational program development an asset
