Zurich Canada is currently looking for a AVP Portfolio Manager to drive portfolio performance and deliver profitable, sustainable decisions for our Retail business.
Reporting to the Head of Retail, you will provide portfolio insights and market intelligence to management and underwriting teams, leveraging dashboarding and analytics tools. You'll collaborate across functions and engage with senior leaders to shape and execute management strategies. You'll also manage key external relationships with distribution partners.

This is a hybrid work opportunity, with three days in the office or in the external-facing market.
What you will do
Lead technical business requirements and stakeholder management with IT to enhance reporting and analytics.
Review the retail portfolio to understand exposures, limits, and mix.
Drive underwriting strategies, propositions, and solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Create presentations for senior stakeholders, sharing insights and management action plans.
Monitor portfolio KPIs using dashboard tools and recommend changes as needed.
Support financial planning by participating in forecasting and driving accountability for results.
Deliver performance analysis to partners and executive stakeholders for new, renewal, and half-year updates.
Work with underwriters and management to develop strategies for profitability and efficiency.
Manage relationships with claims analytics and adjusters to unlock claims insights and share trends.
Review large losses and work with underwriting, claims, and risk services to share learnings.
Manage relationships with select distribution partners to promote propositions and drive results, ensuring retention and growth.
Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table
Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in Underwriting
OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of experience in Underwriting
Preferred:
8+ years' experience in personal lines insurance, financial services, or consulting
Ability to work independently and manage uncertainty
Skilled at influencing and managing complex stakeholders
Effective at handling multiple priorities and performing under pressure
Proactive problem-solver; collaborates well
Strong storytelling skills using charts and visuals
Organized, structured thinker; adapts and creates frameworks
Advanced PowerPoint, Excel, and data analysis/presentation skills
Strong financial acumen; understands P&L statements and drivers
Knowledge of advanced insurance, reinsurance, and legal/regulatory matters
Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication
CIP designation preferred
