Our CWB Optimum team is focused on performing ALT-A, \xe2\x80\x98A\xe2\x80\x99 insured, and \xe2\x80\x98A\xe2\x80\x99 un-insured residential lending activity sourced by the mortgage broker channel and our CWB Branch network across all provinces (except Quebec).

We are seeking an AVP, Underwriting & Fulfilment who will provide operational leadership to underwriting, fulfillment, and funding departments (50+ employees) with a focus on engaging with key collaborators, including the Leadership team to achieve organizational objectives and performance measurements.

Areas of focus

Leadership & Culture

Maintain cohesive, highly motivated staff by promoting cooperation and dedication within the Optimum team, working towards the attainment of critical initiatives and long-term organizational goals.

Strong focus on performance management to meet productivity expectations in a highly customer service focused manner to deliver on financial targets.

Prepare and regularly review annual goals and career development plan with direct reports, and with direct supervisor, the SAVP & Manager.

Provide all required management and supervisory functions including hiring, performance appraisals, and human resource related issues.

Customer Service

Deliver outstanding client experience at every interaction and deliver on plans to continuously develop the client experience, in line with Optimum\xe2\x80\x99s brand promise.

Share client\xe2\x80\x99s sense of urgency and deliver outstanding client experience at every interaction by following our Deal Life Cycle, Client journey road map, with a CWBx focus.

Build close working relationships with quality assurance, sales, renewal, and customer service teams.

Increase Optimum\xe2\x80\x99s customer base by deepening existing referral source relationships.

Assist with higher approval files and approve credit applications (new, internal borrower) within delegated credit limits on a triage basis.

Use reporting with teams to ensure the pipeline is moving forward, with a CWBx focus.

Ensure all staff adhere to established business line service agreements on underwriting and documentation review, with consistent communication provided to our referral sources.

Business Growth

Responsible for Optimum\xe2\x80\x99s Alternative Channels and \xe2\x80\x98A\xe2\x80\x99 Lending team, delivering on target business goals, plans, and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy and in compliance with all governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountable for all lending activity including compliance to policy and achievement towards annual funding and fee revenue stream.

Optimize profitability through implementing strategies to ensure a consistent balanced growth and manage budgeting for the branch operation while maintaining responsibility for mortgage loan production and credit quality.

Stay abreast of industry and economic trends and assess impact of industry from credit risk perspective and provide risk adjustment recommendations to Senior Leadership.

Maintain Underwriting Principles guide to help identify and mitigate potential impacts of negative market performance trends.

Review and authorize escalated files from the Underwriters, Fulfillment Specialists and Sales group, with authority to sign off on exceptions to policy.

Apply a balanced approach of meeting policy and regulatory requirements while employing common sense in review of deals and documentation presented; coach the teams on how to connect with the brokers to come up with reasonable solutions.

Compliance

Ensure compliance with strong emphasis on the adherence to Bank C-34 and CT-36 Lending Policy, Insurer guidelines and regulatory requirements, including OSFI\xe2\x80\x99s B-20 Directive, as well as KYC, AML, and fraud prevention requirements.

Uphold an audit inspection rating of Satisfactory with limited major and repeat findings identified as assessed by Second and Third Lines of Defence within the Bank, as well as audit inspections performed by external parties.

Identify potential fraudulent documentation that could end in loss to Optimum and provide ongoing training in areas that present risk to our department.

Support, complement, and leverage fraud risk prevention, detection, and mitigation practices.

Proactively manage and monitor policy exceptions against Lending Standards thresholds to ensure validity and compliance to reporting.

Manage the underwriting, documentation fulfillment, and funding teams to established processes and procedures.

Successful incumbent

This role requires an individual with a solid understanding of residential mortgage lending, risk management, credit & financial statement analysis, and loan structuring. They must have proven leadership skills to manage, encourage, and inspire high performing and inclusive larger teams with a strong ability to influence and think strategically.

Core knowledge requirements

MBA or Post- secondary Degree in Commerce or Finance.

Process and efficiency certification in 6-Sigma Lean (or equivalent).

Change Management certification in ADKAR (or equivalent).

Strong working knowledge of residential lending, supporting documentation necessary to make sound lending decisions, and securities documentation.

Solid understanding of Insurer (CMHC and Sagen) eligibility guidelines.

Solid understanding of the Regulator (OSFI) B-20 directive, and Lending Standards C-34 and CT-36.

Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite of products (incl. Power BI).

Demonstrated experience

7+ years of Senior Management experience in Residential Mortgage Lending.

Proven Residential Secured Lending experience at a senior management level will be considered.

Familiarity with LMS and WAVE loan origination systems, and T-24 (core banking system) is an asset.
