As Aviation Security and Safety Coordinator, you will develop, coordinate and implement federal security and safety regulations as well as provincial safety programs within aviation services.

About the job

In this role, you will:
develop strategies and policies to promote an aviation safety philosophy within the Aviation operations
provide staff training to ensure safety standards are maintained
coordinate and oversee the transportation of dangerous goods by air
identify and analyze workplace health, safety or security risks
investigate aircraft maintenance-related incidents and provide reports identifying root cause and recommended corrective actions
participate in committees and working groups including investigation teams
work independently with minimal direct supervision and act in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines to make time-sensitive decisions
Note: This position is located at 475 Airport Road in Sault Ste Marie, however it also requires the ability to travel to locations in Ontario not accessible by public transit.

Technical expertise:
You have knowledge of safety management systems, hazard risk assessments, incident/hazard reporting, investigation systems, auditing practices and transportation of dangerous goods requirements.
You have knowledge of and experience with the development and application of emergency response plans.
You are able to interpret and apply regulations and acts such as Federal Aeronautics Act, Canadian Air regulations (CARS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations (TDGR), and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
You are able to apply mandatory standards and requirements for commercial and private air carriers.
You have knowledge of flight and aircraft maintenance procedures and requirements.
You have extensive experience in aviation safety and proven ability to integrate aviation requirements and safety practices into one seamless program.

Analytical and evaluative skills:
You have proven evaluative skills to investigate the root causes of aviation accidents/incidents, identify safety hazards, and conduct and identify safety trends through analysis.
You can develop effective recommendations and corrective action plans/strategies in response to safety occurrences.
You are able to conduct workplace risk assessments.
You can solve complex user needs and identify safety deficiencies.
You have proven evaluative skills to recommend and implement organizational safety targets and measures.

Communication and interpersonal skills:
You have excellent verbal communication skills to consult, liaise and deal tactfully with the media, commercial air operators, provincial agencies and federal government agencies.
You have effective interpersonal skills to consult with management, lead seminars and facilitate/conduct training sessions to employees.
You are able to conduct, prepare and present reports resulting from internal organizational reviews or quality assurance audits of the safety program.

Negotiation, problem-solving and consultative skills:
You have demonstrated ability to provide advice and feedback to commercial air operators and make recommendations for improvements.
You have strong negotiation and consultation skills to deal effectively with aviation personnel, commercial air operators, Transport Canada officials, stakeholders and Ministry partners.
