Workshop & Business Operations Manager: Role Description
Job Overview
We are seeking a Results-Driven Workshop & Business Operations Manager to oversee daily operations, customer relations, team management, and business development. This role is critical in driving revenue growth, market positioning, and service excellence across key automotive services -- including brakes, exhausts, tyres, alignments, suspensions, diagnostics, transmission repairs, engine work, and EV services.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, business acumen, and industry knowledge. You will be responsible for managing sales initiatives, executing marketing campaigns, handling daily financial and administrative functions, and ensuring operational excellence to outperform KPIs and expand market share.
Core Responsibilities Operational & Technical Management
Oversee day-to-day workshop functions such as vehicle intake, repair scheduling, parts inventory, and workflow coordination.
Maintain high standards for repair quality, safety, and compliance, with particular attention to EV safety protocols.
Supervise and develop technicians and support staff to ensure productivity and technical competence.
Conduct regular workflow audits, perform quality checks, and implement process improvements to maximise efficiency.
Customer Relations & Service Excellence
Ensure an exceptional customer experience throughout all stages, from booking to vehicle delivery.
Handle customer escalations, provide transparent estimates, and explain repairs confidently, including complex services such as transmissions, diagnostics, and EV repairs.
Foster customer loyalty through personalised service, follow-up calls, and effective feedback collection.
Business Development & Market Expansion
Proactively develop new business opportunities through community engagement, corporate fleet contracts, and local marketing initiatives.
Identify target markets, including fleet operators, insurance/claims projects, and EV owners.
Collaborate with the marketing team to produce promotional campaigns that highlight key services such as brakes, diagnostics, and EV services.
Build strategic partnerships with parts suppliers, local dealerships, insurance agencies, and corporate clients.
Conduct outreach activities including local advertising, event participation, and digital marketing campaigns (social media, Google Ads, etc.).
Track and analyse market trends, customer preferences, and competitors to refine service offerings.
Sales & Revenue Growth Strategy
Set and achieve sales targets for all service categories, including repairs, diagnostics, upgrades, and maintenance packages.
Upsell and cross-sell services such as transmission repairs, engine diagnostics, and EV services to existing customers.
Lead the sales team in customer acquisition campaigns and referral programmes.
Enhance revenue per vehicle through value-added service packages and maintenance plans.
Monitor sales pipeline, track leads and prospects, and ensure consistent follow-up and conversion.
Financial & Administrative Management
Oversee daily business administration, including invoicing, warranty processing, work order management, and parts procurement.
Support payroll by preparing and submitting accurate payroll information, timesheets, and expense reports to the accounting team.
Manage inventory by overseeing parts procurement, maintaining optimal stock levels, and nurturing vendor relationships for critical components (brakes, tyres, EV parts, etc.).
Prepare monthly KPI reports that cover sales, technician productivity, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiencies.
Monitor daily cash flow, control expenses, and track profitability metrics.
Marketing & Brand Promotion
Work closely with the marketing team to plan and execute campaigns that showcase key services such as brakes, tyres, EV repairs, and diagnostics.
Implement promotional offers, discounts, and loyalty programmes to attract and retain customers.
Manage the workshop's online presence, including customer reviews, social media, and Google My Business profiles.
Organise community events, special offers, or technical clinics (such as EV maintenance workshops) to boost visibility.
Team Development & Leadership
Recruit, onboard, and train staff to ensure operational and technical excellence.
Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and development programmes to motivate and develop the team.
Foster a safety-first culture and encourage a mindset of continuous improvement.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure full compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations, including EV safety protocols.
Conduct regular safety audits, provide staff safety training, and ensure the workshop is kept clean and orderly.
Qualifications & Skills
Proven experience managing an automotive repair workshop or dealership.
Extensive knowledge of brakes, exhausts, tyres, alignments, suspensions, transmissions, engines, diagnostics, and EV repair.
Strong sales, negotiation, and marketing skills.
Financial acumen, including experience with invoicing, expense management, and payroll support.
Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service abilities.
Proficiency with CRM, Parts Management, and Workshop Management software.
Results-oriented attitude with a KPI-driven approach.
