Req #1535Friday, June 14, 2024BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.BIOVECTRA Inc. has an opening for a Automation Manager. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Charlottetown, PEI.The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Serving as technical facility automation engineering subject matter expert responsible for automation system(s) across the entire site including existing site facilities, B100, B200 and/or FFIP.
  • Providing direct technical input for design and fabrication, commissioning, and qualification of facility automation systems in a non-GMP and GMP environment.
  • Interpreting and ensuring compliance of facility automation requirements developed during detailed design phase.
  • Executing and working with various trades to complete installation and commissioning activities for automation systems to ensure they are designed and installed per design requirements.
  • Performing mechanical completion and start-up for capital projects. Lead as automation representative in FAT, SAT and Critical Test Plan execution.
  • Reviewing the C&Q test plans for the automation and supporting the commissioning and qualification tasks.
  • Directing input into configuration administration and maintenance activities of the site\xe2\x80\x99s manufacturing computer and automation systems, including process control systems, building automation systems, configuration, interfaces.
  • Supporting operations and performing troubleshooting and issue resolution with respect to computer and facility automation systems such as Siemens PLC and ignition.
  • Leading automation design development and specifications. Responsible for developing preliminary and basic engineering deliverables that meet URS and compliance requirements including best practices guidelines. Depending on the project, some deliverables may be generated internally while other times by external engineering.
  • Performing appropriate review. Accountable for technical quality of design of automation systems. Perform appropriate reviews with vendors and stakeholders. Responsible for design that meets project budget and schedule for the applicable automation systems.
  • Overseeing various automation project execution from technical standpoint for alignment in automation philosophy and strategy.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
  • Post-Secondary Education in either B.Sc in Electrical, Automation Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Five to Seven years, direct experience in applied automation design engineering and project experience are required. Additional experience in construction/installation, equipment start-up, qualification and/or validation is mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of PLC\xe2\x80\x99s and automation in DCS platform.
  • Expert with the DeltaV system (biotech company or project).
  • Working knowledge of unit operations typically used in biotech and vaccine manufacturing such as bulk manufacturing, downstream operations, formulation, steaming (SIP) and cleaning (CIP).
  • Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills (engineering analysis).
  • Experience with one of the following platforms: Allen Bradley PLC, BMS System, OSISoft PI historian, Werum PAS|X, Instrumentation and control panel hardware as required by the job.
  • Experience with computer systems validation practices (GAMP).
  • Experience authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures, on-the-job-trainings, and other controlled documents.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative shared space (Obeya) in a large and complex project environment where quick critical thinking and decision making is required.
  • Technical aptitude/understanding across a broad number of subjects including vaccine processes and equipment, HVAC systems, building and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to lead, engage and work with a spectrum of roles within the organization. This includes unionized trades, salaried managers, technical services support functions, quality, production and supporting functions.
