Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, the Automation Engineer\xe2\x80\x99s main responsibility is to establish, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing equipment and processes. As all areas of manufacturing are cGMP compliant, these tasks demand precision and complete attention to detail, and require the fundamental understanding and application of Engineering principles guided by strict Quality Management Systems throughout bioLytical\xe2\x80\x99s Richmond facility. This is a hands-on, on-site position that will see you on the manufacturing floor completing a variety of engineering projects.   • Oversees all equipment and utility services in the manufacturing and research facility including but not limited to electrical services, pneumatic services, manual, semi-automated and fully automated PLC controlled assembly & packaging lines with robotic systems. This includes the utilization of pneumatic, electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering disciplines for upkeep of all production machines and production lines.
  • Establish, maintain and optimize Preventative Maintenance and Calibration programs pertaining to all applicable equipment in the facility following cGMP.
  • Implement continuous improvement in the manufacturing processes using Lean/Six Sigma principles, and manage/lead engineering projects using this knowledge.
  • Lead the Qualification and/or Validation of equipment and processes following GMP principles.
  • Fault diagnosis and reprogramming of HMI, automation and PLC controlled systems.
  • Mechanical parts optimization and redesign using 3D CAD software.
  • Lead the authorship of written procedures and follow standardized documentation methods.
  • Interact and evaluate suppliers, source new equipment and train personnel as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or Diploma in Mechatronics & Robotics or Automation Technology. Emphasis on mechanical engineering is an asset.
  • Minimum three years of experience in automation systems maintenance, qualification and process validation activities of semi and fully automated assembly & packaging systems.
  • Validation experience and understanding of cGMP procedures under Quality Management System is essential.
  • Fault diagnosis and reprogramming of automation PLC and robotics including Omron, Modicon, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Magelis HMI, Fanuc Robotic Systems.
  • Problem solving capabilities and solution focused.
  • Project, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly flexible and have the ability and willingness to take responsibility to ensure tight deadlines are met.
  • Candidates with previous experience working with automated production line experience following cGMP in the Medical Device, Biotech. or Pharmaceutical industries will be given priority.
  • Trained in WHMIS and TDG.
  • Trained in Lean Six Sigma principles an asset.
