This position performs motor vehicle body work and repairs to vehicles, components, and industrial equipment owned and operated by the Provincial Government. This position covers all aspects of auto body repair and includes sandblasting, welding, prepping, priming and painting and detailing equipment / vehicles.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
• Restore existing parts or replace parts;
• Remove all contaminates from surface by using compressed air, solvents or other means;
• Mask or remove upholstery, chrome, plastic or glass;
• Mask equipment properly to prevent overspray;
• Mix paint according to the paint codes and pigment scales;
• Use mobile crane or other hoisting equipment to set up equipment for sand blast and paint;
• Complete work orders, writing description of work completed, hours of work performed, and supplies used on completion of repairs in order to complete job safely, efficiently and on time;
• Prepare paint room for painting by thoroughly cleaning room and its contents;
• Prime and paint vehicles, components, and equipment using accepted industry techniques, procedures, and tools. This includes the use of pneumatic paint guns and the application of toxic chemicals in a confined environment requiring the use of a supplied air breathing source;
• Prepare all vehicles, components, and equipment by covering and sealing all areas to prevent sand penetration into vulnerable components (i.e., electronics, upholstery, and costly components);
• Inspect sandblasting equipment and required PPE prior to use;
• Perform welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals required to complete repairs to equipment, vehicles, and components;
• Maintain body work equipment, paint guns, grinding machines, tools and PPE to insure safe reliable equipment and work environment.
• Service air compressors and change air filters on fresh air pumps;
• General cleaning of shop work area, storage areas, sandblast building, and removal of used products of sandblasting;
• Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must have successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED).
• Must possess a valid Inter-Provincial Red Seal Qualification as a Motor Vehicle Body Repairer.
• Must have considerable experience and knowledge of all aspects of Auto Body Repair.
• Must have working experience in welding.
• Must have, or obtain, a valid Prince Edward Island Class 2A or 3A driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
• Must have knowledge of operating and maintaining sandblasting equipment.
• Must have knowledge of mixing paint products and proper paint preparation and application techniques.
• Must have, or obtain, a Forklift Operator and Mobile Crane Operator Certificate.
• Must have, or obtain, training in First Aid / CPR and WHMIS.
• Working independently, under pressure and with minimal supervision is required.
• Must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check, prior to employment.
• Must provide a current hearing test, prior to employment.
• Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
