The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds are seeking a dedicated and passionate Athletic Trainer to join our program. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to providing the integrated care, health, wellness, and game performance and readiness of players. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic sports environment supporting elite young hockey players throughout their competitive season.
The position will be with the U15 hockey team and some coverage for both U17 and U18 teams as needed during the season. The league/season starts in September and runs until March/April. Games are on Saturdays and Sundays.
Duties & Responsibilities
Deliver medical coverage to home/away games as assigned by head trainer
Lead team warm-ups and cool downs
Provide any pre-game/post-game taping
Manages the healthcare of Players including, but not limited to: first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, development of rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals
Managing the game day and medical operations for the team
Qualifications
CPR/First Aid certified
Sports experience is working in a high temp, integrated and interdisciplinary medical support team preferred
Experience working with hockey players and sports injuries preferred
BC hockey requirements: Hockey Canada Safety Program, Respect in Sport, Criminal Record Check
Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT)
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
Reliable transportation for travel to various game locations
