As ATB's next Financial Risk Analyst Student

, you will work with the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team and be exposed to a wide suite of financial products spanning across commodities, foreign exchange, and interest rates - building your understanding of the markets that drive them.


This unique experience will give students the opportunity to learn and grow their awareness of financial institution risk management, contributing to ATB's second line of defense functions. Interacting with ATB Capital Markets, Treasury, Finance, and other groups you will gain an understanding of market risk, credit risk, and product control (middle-office) and the reporting streams used by decision makers to manage the business.


This year's ATB101 student tasks will largely centre around supporting the buildout of FRM's reference and documentation system (using Atlassians' Confluence). The successful candidate will dive deep into understanding the different facets of financial risk at ATB while grounding that learning in the development of clear and concise reference materials, links, and presentations that will be used across the organization.


Accountabilities
Build awareness of the risks associated with financial securities and derivatives. As the second line of defense, FRM is responsible for overseeing financial risks from ATB Capital Markets Sales and Trading as well as Treasury Capital Markets (TCM) risk management of the Banking Book. Use innovative tools and approaches to enhance ATB's financial risk management reference and documentation systems Develop a deep understanding of financial risk measures and how they play a key role in ATB's overall success Non-Traded Market Risk Management - Develop understanding of key risks within a bank's balance sheet and the risk management tools used to measure and monitor these risks. Liquidity Risk - Understand the importance of financial institution funding liquidity risk and key measures (LCR, NSFR) that were implemented post the Global Financial Crisis. Derivative Credit Risk - Application of statistical methods to determine the credit risk on a derivatives portfolio and ensure ATB's credit derivatives exposure (PFE) is within the risk appetite. Leverage Technology - Continue the evolution of data-driven decision making. Assist with analytical model building and visualization - dashboard development.
Skills, experience & requirements
Be passionate and motivated about pursuing a career in risk management. Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate from a degree program with a specialization in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Operations Management. Be able to effectively prioritize and manage your time well. Have a strong sense of personal accountability. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and takes personal accountability to ensure that deliverables are of strong quality. Come with an analytical mind. Be confident to ask questions, seek information, dissect problems, and suggest innovative solutions. Eager to roll up your sleeves and take on new challenges. Be humble and confident. A curious mind, a person that is always asking why but is able to balance that with extremely strong execution.
