POSITION SUMMARY:

The Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) are offering an exceptional paid internship opportunity for a highly motivated senior undergraduate student with a Korean cultural background. The intern will join the Art & Cultures Department in Toronto and work closely with the ROM curator of Korean art & culture and the Asian collection technician to ensure the accuracy and accessibility of the Museum\xe2\x80\x99s Korean collection and resources.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to assist the curator with facilitating programs and curatorial research and gain hands-on experience with the collection management program The Museum System (TMS) and the Alma library software system. You will also have the opportunity to gain valuable day-to-day museum work experience.

This is a unique opportunity to gain experience and skills in a world-class museum setting while making a meaningful contribution to the representation and interpretation of Korean art and culture. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Head of the Department of Art and Culture, you will:

  • Assist with the seamless data-entry of new collections, including new acquisitions and books, into The Museum System (TMS) and the Alma library software system.
  • Take the initiative to revise data in TMS, ensuring accuracy by adding new and missing information and making corrections using the Revised Romanization of Korean Language (2000)
  • Contribute to the development of engaging online content, in alignment with the Museum\'s vision and mission.
  • Collaborate with the curator on curatorial research and programming, gaining valuable experience in the development and execution of high-quality museum programs.
  • Attend meetings with donors, collectors, and community partners, learning the importance of relationship-building and stakeholder engagement.
  • Perform other related duties as required, contributing to the success of the department and the Museum as a whole.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • This internship is exclusively for senior undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds, with a preference for those from the Korean cultural background.
  • Fluency in reading and typing both Korean and English languages are required, with desirable knowledge in the Revised Romanization of the Korean language (2000)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and research skills are a must.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media programs) are essential.
  • Experience with the proper method of handling objects is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Korean art history is desirable but not mandatory.
This internship is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and detail-oriented senior undergraduate student from an underrepresented background, with a preference for those from the Korean cultural background, to gain valuable experience and contribute to the Museum\'s mission. Fluency in Korean and English languages is essential, as is proficiency in computer skills, organizational and research skills, and attention to detail. While experience with the proper handling of objects and familiarity with Korean art history is desirable, they are not mandatory.

SALARY: $18/hour

SCHEDULE: 35 hours/week (450 hours total)
