Position Duties

The Associate Vice-President, Advancement and Alumni Relations is a unique position that makes an enduring difference in the lives of students pursuing post-secondary education. Building on an exceptional platform of programs \xe2\x80\x93 academic, fund development as well as alumni and community relations - this role requires strategic leadership to create, implement and expand advancement and alumni initiatives that support the College\xe2\x80\x99s mission. Reporting to the Vice-President, External Relations and Advancement, the Associate Vice-President, Advancement and Alumni Relations is an accomplished team leader with a proven track record of fundraising, alumni and community relations, and operational experience, including data management and budget administration. Purpose-driven, collaborative, self-starting, and innovative, the incumbent demonstrates sophisticated relationship-building skills and is a compelling communicator who inspires investment in post-secondary education. A commitment to equity will be leveraged through a deep understanding of philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector, a strong marketing mindset, and a successful track-record in fundraising. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial leader who has significantly contributed to the achievements of an organization by delivering positive, sustained funding performance and growth. The incumbent is adept at cultivating relationships and raising significant contributions through major gifts, scholarships, bursaries, capital donations, planned giving and gifts-in-kind. The Associate Vice-President, Advancement and Alumni Relations will have demonstrated experience in community and alumni relations, and the ability to excel in an environment with complex accountability frameworks and reporting requirements.

Position Responsibilities

  • Working with a broad cross-section of college leadership to identify fundraising priorities, targets, activities and metrics, and securing support through donor prospecting, cultivation, and solicitation;
  • Creatively engaging and soliciting six- and seven-figure gifts and establishing partnerships with transformational donors;
  • Overseeing high touch donor stewardship, networking and recognition, to develop and maintain relationships that ensure the conditions for increased philanthropic support exist for key constituents;
  • Contributing to the translation, integration and articulation of DC\xe2\x80\x99s unique competitive advantage and key corporate messaging through presentations and briefs, to a diverse base of alumni and potential donors;
  • Implementing data-driven alumni and donor engagement initiatives designed to grow DC pride and support for college priorities; and
  • Strategically managing community relations activities across the region, ensuring DC continues to be positioned as a sought-after and trusted partner.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have
  • a university degree and/or equivalent education;
  • at least 10 years of successful, progressive fundraising experience, including financial reporting and data management expertise;
  • demonstrated experience in inclusive team leadership, with the ability to develop and maintain trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • knowledge of, and experience with, current and prospective donor communities within Ontario and nationally;
  • strong written and verbal communication skills to craft clear and compelling cases for support of Durham College\xe2\x80\x99s vision and goals;
  • highly developed interpersonal, organization and problem-solving skills, driven by passion and initiative; and
  • the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation and experience with a foundation board are assets.
