NVIT anticipates a need for

an Associate Vice President, Students

at the

Merritt or Burnaby Campus

and invites applications from qualified candidates. This will be a full-time, ongoing exempt position and will commence as soon as a suitable candidate is available.


Job Summary/Responsibilities:





NVIT invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President, Students. This is a senior leadership role at British Columbia's Indigenous public post-secondary institution. The AVP, Students will play a pivotal role in shaping the student experience by leading initiatives that support academic success, personal development, and community engagement.


Key Responsibilities:



Provide strategic leadership for student services, including the Registrar's Office; Marketing, Events & Communications; Library & Success Centre; Residence; and Daycare. Oversee the Registrar's Office, ensuring compliance with academic policies and the integrity of student records. Lead and support the student services teams across multiple campuses. Co-lead Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) planning and implementation. Enhance institutional communications and promote NVIT's brand and values. Ensure adherence to institutional policies and procedures related to student services. Foster inclusive, trauma-informed approaches to student support and conflict resolution. Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities and external partners. A graduate degree and a minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in post-secondary education. Demonstrated expertise in student affairs, enrolment management, or academic administration. Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and educational priorities. Proven ability in strategic planning, team leadership, and policy development. Commitment to learner-centred service and community engagement. Willingness to travel within British Columbia and across Canada. Understanding of Canada's colonial history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing; Practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens; Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and Indigenous lived experiences; Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships to achieve outcomes in the best interest of students and NVIT; * A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public;
