JOB PURPOSE:

The York School is seeking an outstanding recently graduated teacher who will have a valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) Certificate (Primary/Junior Division). Reporting to the Principal of the Junior School, the successful candidate will be directly involved in the academic programme of the Junior School: assisting Grade team teachers in classrooms, covering classes, supervising student activities and other support roles related to teaching and learning.

The Associate Teacher role is one that offers a range of opportunities to hone the skills and knowledge of best teacher practices, including curriculum development, classroom management, collaboration, assessment, communication, and the employment of innovative technologies. We welcome newly graduated teachers to join our dynamic community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of the curriculum in assigned classrooms

  • Integrate the School\xe2\x80\x99s mission throughout all curricular and co-curricular activities

  • Work with small groups and/or individual students to assist with class work and projects

  • Employ innovation and technology, where appropriate, to optimize student learning

  • Contribute to the student co-curricular and athletic programmes as a teacher lead/supervisor or coach

  • Establish a positive and engaging teaching and learning environment through sound classroom management practices and techniques

  • Attend faculty and other school meetings

  • Supervise students and participate in co-curricular activities as required


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Ontario Teacher\xe2\x80\x99s Certificate (Primary or Junior division)

  • Classroom experience an asset, either volunteering or teaching

  • Coaching experience considered an asset

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills

  • Committed to ongoing professional growth, and be willing to work in a collaborative professional community

  • PYP knowledge or experience considered an asset

  • Proficiency in a technologically rich school environment, and skilled in Google Applications are considered an asset
