Job Title Associate, Sustainable Finance, Corporate Client Group
What is the opportunity?
In this role, you will be part of the Corporate Client Group (CCG) - Sustainable Finance (SF) team which is responsible for the mid-market ESG strategy as it relates to client engagement, framework design and execution. The SF team integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors across the core mid-market platform to position CCG as a market leader in sustainable (green, social, transition) finance. CCG SF provides structuring advice relating to Sustainable Finance loan products, including Green Loans (GL) and Sustainability Linked Loans (SLL), thereby supporting the financing requirements of borrowers in CCG. We have responsibility for SF related matters on these transactions, from identifying fit with clients, informing them on product offerings, evaluating and establishing KPI/appropriate use of proceeds, reviewing loan documentation, coordinating with environmental risk as well as monitoring and compliance. CCG SF works closely with partners across the enterprise, including Capital Markets Sustainable Finance Group, BFS Strategy, Enterprise & Transformation Strategy, Corporate Citizenship and Group Risk Management.
What will you do?
Develop pitch books and client-related materials related to sustainable finance products (e.g. Green/Social/Sustainability and Sustainability-linked financial products)
Assist in deal execution and coordinate with Relationship Managers, Finance, ABL, M&A, MMLIF and other groups to support clients' ESG needs
Support Finance team's credit submissions, including research and due diligence as part of transaction processes
Monitor global sustainability and ESG trends, themes, and topics
Analyze quantitative data related to sustainable finance
Review research and reports to distill insights to support client-facing thought-leadership
There may be opportunities to assist with Climate projects/initiatives at the Enterprise level
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Undergraduate or master's degree in business, accounting or finance
2+ years' experience in either finance/investment management/management consulting and/or sustainability
Knowledge of key trends, themes and issues related to ESG, sustainable finance and sustainability
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels of organization
Well organized and able to set priorities and devote appropriate attention to each assignment resulting in performing well under pressure, meeting time sensitive deadlines, prioritizing work and being able to work on multiple projects.
Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong teamwork and
collaboration skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proven quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Strong attention to detail
Nice-to-have
Ability to commit to over and above regular work hours
Experience with Bloomberg, S&P and third-party ESG data services such Sustainalytics and MSCI
Knowledge of sustainability standards and frameworks including SASB and TCFD
