As an Associate, Investment Operations you will support public Investment teams with transaction management, asset servicing, investment accounting, reporting and valuations. You will also oversee the day-to-day evaluation, accounting, and monitoring of relevant investment portfolios, covering all asset classes and security types.
Team Description
We are presently recruiting for an Associate, Public Markets Middle Office (PMMO) to support settlement processes for public market products. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent analytical skills, organization skills, written and verbal communication skills and prior knowledge of settlement and custodial procedures in Canadian and international marketplaces. Process and control oversight experience is requisite.
Accountabilities:
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the day-to-day management of investment operations functions; validating critical applications such as IBOR, sub-ledgers and ABOR daily, completeness of supporting documentation, validation of transaction amounts and ensuring appropriate authorizations are in place to facilitate investment closings.
  • Partner with colleagues from the Investment Departments, Finance, Legal, and Risk to assist in investment closings through documentation review, system setups, transaction entries and settlements.
  • Assist in processing complex investments with the ability to understand impact on accounting, reporting and performance.
  • Assist in the review of financial statements, note disclosures and management reports to ensure accuracy and completeness, as well as provide valuable insights and commentary.
  • Assist in the quarterly/ monthly valuation review; ensure valuation adjustments are accurately recorded and bring any errors/ inconsistencies to management's attention. Provide insightful valuation analysis.
  • Ensure Daily validation of position record keeping, and private holdings & deals is accurate and delivered timely to support ID's and trading.
  • Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with internal investment staff and external asset managers to ensure issues are discussed and resolved and financial controls and reporting requirements are met.
  • Build a reputation as a subject matter expert in the asset class you support for issues related to investment operations and accounting.
  • Continually strive for operational excellence; seek ways to streamline processes and create operational efficiencies.
  • Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with internal investment staff and external asset managers to ensure issues are discussed and resolved, financial controls and reporting requirements are met.
  • Help lead the team in striving for operational excellence, assisting in creating process documents for new processes and/or updates to existing processes.
  • Monitor trade settlement processes across equities, fixed income, repos, FX, MMKT, and SBL, ensuring compliance with market deadlines and standards.
  • Investigate and resolve trade matching discrepancies using platforms such as CTM, Omgeo, or SWIFT.
  • Interface with custodians, prime brokers, and counterparties to resolve technical settlement breaks and ensure timely trade affirmation.
  • Lead resolution of complex technical breaks by coordinating with internal operations, technology teams, custodians, and counterparties.
  • Partner with technology and change teams to drive system enhancements, automation initiatives, and operational resiliency improvements.
  • Own performance metrics and KPIs related to trade settlements, delivering regular technical dashboards and exception reports to senior management.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional designations such as a CBV, CFA, CPA are considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, financial and management accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems. Proficiency in coding considered an asset
  • Proficiency in reconciliation, trade matching tools, OMS and ABOR
  • Familiarity with SWIFT messaging standards (e.g., MT54x series), including message flow monitoring and exception management.
