Associate Quest Designer | Marvel Contest Of Champions

Vancouver, BC, Canada

Job Description

At Kabam, we're constantly raising the bar of excellence in free-to-play mobile gaming. We hire for passion and diversity so that together as a team we can triumph in our collective skill. Our teams are made up of a fusion of personalities and interests bound together by a collaborative nature, fun-loving culture, and a drive to do what it takes to make great games. And this is where you come in...

You find yourself dissecting level construction, encounter components, and reward systems. You're highly intrigued by seeing how modifications you make to content change the "hows" and "whys" of player behaviour, both for their long-term strategies and second-to-second decisions. You have a knack for storytelling and a passion for mobile games.

Sounds like a match? Our Vancouver studio is looking for an Associate Quest Designer to join us on Marvel Contest of Champions!

Having the flexibility to work from where you believe you can have the greatest impact is important to us. We know that one size doesn't fit all - every team has the flexibility to find the right balance between in-office, remote, and hybrid in-office/remote. Don't live in Vancouver? Apply anyway! This role is open to being fully remote and we support the basic setups for our employees. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada, Washington, California, Colorado, or Texas and must be available to work during our Vancouver studio's core hours.

You will contribute by:

  • Designing and implementing quests, creating wonderful experiences for millions of players.
  • Executing on a well-defined vision and goal, combining knowledge of level design, encounter design, and economy design to create experiences that entertain, serve an economic function, and create clear goals for players.
  • Creating a variety of unique content types to reach a varied set of in-game and analytical goals, using creative design solutions both to meet intended targets and create fun for players.
  • Working with the data team to follow up on the performance of quest content, to see if intent and goals were met, and effectively make tuning changes to accommodate gained knowledge and hit future targets.
  • Working alongside our RPG designers to create unique combat effects that modify the player experience in small or large ways.
  • Collaborating with multiple disciplines on content creation, leveraging a variety of skills from the whole team to bring your quest vision to completion.
Your background includes:
  • 1-2 years of game design experience on commercially successful properties, ideally in a content-heavy combat encounter design or event quest design capacity.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with an emphasis on game design.
  • Familiarity with RPG, BCG, and action genres on mobile, PC, console, and pen-and-paper platforms.
  • Experience playing Marvel Contest of Champions and understanding of its economy, gameplay, RPG, and social features is highly valued.
  • Rock-solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including documentation and presentation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and related spreadsheet software.
  • A strong desire to make the best games in the world alongside others that share your motivation.
  • Narrative/Storytelling and dialogue writing skills are a bonus!
Our success is due to the hard work of our people. We share our success with our people through flexible benefits and reward programs, sweet swag, snacks, and more. Here's a look at some of the support we provide our people:
  • We know that one size doesn't fit all - every team has the flexibility to find the right balance between in-studio, remote, and hybrid in-studio/remote.
  • We offer extended health coverage effective day one, with no waiting period! We also have an employee assistance program to ensure our people's mental and emotional well-being.
  • Everyone retires eventually, and we help our people save for their futures with a contribution matching program for their RRSP (Canada) or 401K (USA).
  • We offer paid parental leave, flexible paid time off (no worrying about how much time has been earned), as well as paid time off for volunteering.
  • We encourage development through educational support, training sessions, skill development, knowledge sharing, and more!
  • We encourage our team to help us hire the best talent through our referral program, where they can earn up to $5,000 for a successful referral hire.
