As part of the Inclusive Excellence Cluster Hiring Initiative, the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary invites applications for an Associate Professor (with tenure) in Mathematics and Statistics with a specialization in the fundamentals and/or applications of machine learning methods. This position is only open to qualified women candidates. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2023, or a mutually agreed upon date.
Description of Position
The successful candidate will have an active research program that focuses on the foundations of machine learning and/or its applications and is aligned with the University of Calgary\'s and the Faculty of Science\'s strategic plans. They will be expected to conduct high quality research, evidenced by publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, securing external research funding, and maintaining an active profile in their field.
The candidate will be able to interact within the diverse research environment in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Faculty of Science, and the University of Calgary, and take advantage of the access to state-of-the-art core infrastructure. The candidate is also expected to collaborate with some established research program(s) in Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science. These research programs include but are not limited to inverse problems, imaging, optimization, mathematical and computational finance, mathematical biology, computational neuroscience, computational homology, and quantum computing.
Additionally, the candidate will play an important role in teaching and research supervision of students in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach courses in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and/or related programs (e.g., Professional Masters programs in Data Science, Quantum Computing or Information Security) commensurate with their expertise and current teaching needs.
Applicants must have a strong track record of an independent research program, demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at university level utilizing contemporary approaches to teaching, evidence of effective graduate student supervision, and evidence they contribute collegially within their academic unit.

The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary and inter-Faculty team of researchers and educators with a commitment to supporting fundamental and collaborative research activities.
