Your Role

CBC Newfoundland and Labrador is looking for a high energy, passionate person to fill the role of Associate Producer for \xe2\x80\x9cThe Signal\xe2\x80\x9d. (The Signal is CBC NL\xe2\x80\x99s noon hour current affairs program)

The ideal candidate will bring a strong work ethic, positive outlook and experience in current affairs programming. The Signal is home to \xe2\x80\x9cFirst Light Fridays\xe2\x80\x9d, an Indigenous segment which broadcasts in partnership with First Light. First Light is a non-profit urban indigenous organization. Experience working or living in an Indigenous community will be considered an asset.

As Associate Producer, reporting to the Senior Producer of Programming, you will work with the host / producer of The Signal to line up and deliver exceptional content from around the province. You will put an emphasis on community based programming with a focus on growing a younger, more diverse audience.

You will have a grasp of current trends in news programming - on digital and broadcast platforms - as well as emerging storytelling tools and technology. You will have a clear understanding of CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices.

This is a collaborative work environment, so a team player with first-rate communications skills is a must. You will need to juggle and prioritize multiple stories and tasks, and to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

Minimum of one year of experience in a news / current affairs environment preferred.

Strong contributor of ideas, stories and treatments.

The ability to plan ahead and effectively organize current affairs coverage for the program giving consideration to digital and broadcast platforms

Passionate about exploring the diverse communities that make up Newfoundland and Labrador.

Proven track record of ensuring a diversity of voices is reflected in storytelling.

Personal experience with pitching and producing stories on under-represented communities.

Be connected to indigenous communities to enhance programming in particular the \xe2\x80\x9cFirst Light Friday\xe2\x80\x9d segment.

A desire to build out a video streaming version of \xe2\x80\x9cThe Signal\xe2\x80\x9d

Innovative with programming and ideas. Curious, incisive and critical thinker.

Knowledge of changing audience trends and best practices, and social media.

Up-to-date contact network.

Knowledge of production methods in the field and newsroom.

High level of organization and productivity.

Strong & enthusiastic team player with good communication skills.

Initiative taker, with ability to be productive in individual and team settings.

Able to work flexible hours.
