Associate Producer (English Services) (On-Site)
Your role  
We are looking for an energetic, creative and forward thinking Associate Producer to take on a vital role in our visuals teams.
Please note this is an 18 month maternity leave.
You're someone with interests in a wide range of topics. You have serious journalistic chops and you are a tenacious, creative chaser and a fast worker. You are familiar with visual storytelling and have the ability to go on air if necessary.
You will be part of a small, tight-knit team, so strong multitasking and self-management skills are essential.
Your job will be to gather, write, and even present, on air, for our visuals team - often on a tight timeframe. You may also be asked to contribute to our other platforms, with video, digital or social media items related to stories you gather. You may also be assigned to work on our supper news program where you will chase guests, write and cut clips and voiceovers, and prepare items for broadcast.
You should be comfortable with the demands and needs of visual production, radio, and online news production on tight deadlines.
Advice, guidance and direction are regularly available from one or more producers, but there is wide latitude for initiative and judgment. Close cooperation with the program unit is essential.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:University degree or equivalent.
A minimum of four years related experience.
Demonstrated ability to work within a team.
Strong writing and editorial abilities.
Excellent critical thinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
A strong, proven connection to the communities we serve in Calgary and Southern Alberta, and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
Exceptionally strong research and organizational skills.
Extensive general knowledge.
Extensive knowledge of Calgary and Southern Alberta.
Strong on-air presence.
Strong and enthusiastic team player.
Curious, quick thinking, incisive and critical thinker.
Innovative with programming ideas.
Experience using social media to research, develop and source stories.
Passionate about both stories and issues.
Demonstrated attention to accuracy under time constraints required.
