POSITION OVERVIEW
The Associate Principal plays a central role within the BDC Seed Venture Fund investment team, based in Montreal. Main responsibilities include deal sourcing, leading diligence, maintaining connections with the venture capital ecosystem, and supporting the Fund team. Flexibility and involvement in various aspects of the fund and portfolio companies are required.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Deal SourcingLead initial company assessments and prepare recommendations to pursue or decline deals.
Monitor the current portfolio and discuss potential new or follow-on investments with Partners.
Build and maintain networks within the investment community.
Deal MakingCoordinate due diligence for new investment opportunities.
Lead reference calls with industry experts and employees of prospective companies.
Produce investment memos and assist in presenting opportunities to the Investment Committee.
Portfolio Management & SupportHelp manage ongoing relationships with executives of portfolio companies.
Monitor portfolio performance and relay opportunities or issues to management.
Assist portfolio companies with introductions, governance, financing, and strategic planning.
Platform BuildingEnsure compliance of research files and performance reports.
Coach Analysts and Associates to ensure quality deliverables.
Support the team during the development stage of investments.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
ExperienceBilingual (French and English), with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
5 to 7 years of experience in financial analysis, structured thinking, and technical expertise (venture capital, consulting, industry, etc.).
University degree in commerce, economics, science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
Technical KnowledgeSolid understanding of the deal process and portfolio management.
Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
Ability to write clear and concise investment memos.
Behavioral TraitsStrong intellectual curiosity and interest in technology startups.
Organized, proactive, motivated, and a team player.
Ability to collaborate and solve problems using structured thinking.
Enthusiasm for supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
