  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative while at the same time willing to work as a team with the Manager, Assistant Manager, other support staff and volunteers
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of a positive Christian presence within the shop
  • Strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate both written and verbal fluently in English
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently
  • Requires about 7.5 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday
  • Ability to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary
  • Sitting may be required only intermittently and occasionally
  • Ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office and web based applications)
  • Healthy balance of patience, humour and energy
  • Heart for justice, active peacemaking and global understanding
  • Valid \'G\' Ontario driver\'s license, ability to drive and dock cube truck into loading dock
  • Police vulnerable sector check (required upon hire)
  • Legally able to work in Canada
Preferred
  • Delivery truck experience
  • Warehousing experience
  • Tow Motor/Pump Cart experience
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Health Canada Regulations and other legislation relating to a safe work environment
Job Synopsis This full-time position supports the logistical operation of MCC New Hamburg Thrift Centre. The Associate - Logistics will work with store management to ensure the movement of sorted and unsorted goods flows smoothly between, and within the production and retail portions of the Centre, as well as facilitating the outflow of goods for landfill and recycling.

This position works closely with the management team in the day-to-day retail stock requirements of the shop.
This position is a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, including some early mornings, evenings and Saturdays.

Challenges

Key Responsibilities Logistics
  • Work with management, staff and volunteers in managing the inventory of the retail and processing areas, ensuring teamwork, a desirable working environment.
  • Work with shop management to maintain an efficient transportation schedule between production (65 Heritage) and retail (41 Heritage)
  • Load and unload appropriate trucks (shop/outside vendors) with pallets, gaylords, racks etc
  • Operate shop truck to convey product between locations
  • Work with NHTC Logistics Coordinator to maintain warehouse organization and flow
  • Ensure production room remains stocked with unsorted material
  • Support other areas of shop (receiving/furniture/retail) as required
  • Some evening and weekend shifts are required

  • Share the news about MCC New Hamburg Thrift Centre and the MCCO Thrift Network in the community
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned
  • Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ\'s unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized
