The ideal candidate will assist in the design and analysis of
traffic control systems, traffic signal design, Roadway illumination, and ITS infrastructure (bonus)
, as well as understanding of
roadway signage/pavement marking for major roadway and infrastructure projects
. This role provides exposure to complex projects across municipal and provincial agencies, including those adhering to MTO standards. You are expected to lead and contribute to the successful design, production, coordination, and management of
Traffic Signal Design and Infrastructure Lighting projects
under the least amount of supervision.
You will develop traffic signal, lighting, or auxiliary systems designs in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, including layout, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, photometric layouts, grounding details, and prepare and review wire sizing, voltage drop, cable pull tension, and conduit capacity calculations. You will also be responsible for coordinating a multidisciplinary team, utilities for electrical infrastructure, and transportation-related design and construction projects, as well as preparing technical reports, tender documentation, and providing field support, including commissioning, traffic signal turn-on, and site inspections.
You will ensure that Engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices, review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs and ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering drawings and preparing final reports.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Develop
traffic control plans
, construction staging layouts, and detour designs in compliance with
Ontario Traffic Manual
and other applicable standards for various clients.
Prepare
signal design layouts
, wiring diagrams, conduit/conductor schedules, and phasing diagrams for temporary and permanent installations.
Perform Photometric calculation with MTO and municipality approved lighting simulation software (AGI 32, Autolux, etc.)
Perform
illumination design
, including AGI analysis, voltage drop calculations, and preparation of wiring schematics.
Conduct
engineering design and calculations
, quantity takeoffs, and prepare detailed design tables and manage and maintain project schdule.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with a strong desire and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and problem-solve in an integrated team environment.
Utilize software tools such as
AutoCAD, MicroStation, ProjectWise
, and other traffic design applications.
Preparation of contract documents and specifications
Site visits and contract administration
Perform on-site light level surveys (night inspection.)

What you will bring to our firm:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical/Civil)
EIT designation in Ontario, leading to obtaining P.Eng
4+ years of relevant work experience in traffic design and transportation engineering.
Working proficiency in
AutoCAD, MicroStation, AGI 32, ProjectWise, Microsoft Project,
Bluebeam, and related tools is required.
Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 12A, 15, 5, 6 & 7), Lighting Standards (IESNA RP-8), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada
What we prefer you bring:
4+ years relevant experience in traffic signal and streetlighting design, ideally in a design-consulting or utility environment
Master's degree in Construction/transportation or related field is an asset.
Attained or eligible to obtain P.Eng Designation.
Familiarity with
traffic signal phasing, ATMS
and
ITS systems
.
Knowledge of various municipal and MTO lighting and traffic signal design standards
Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate with stakeholders effectively
Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities
Experience with pole loading software i.e. SPIDAcalc or equivalent, is an asset
Experience performing electrical site inspections, construction supervision and contract administration
