Product Controllers are the front-line finance function for the Corporate & Investment Banking (C&IB) business. The role involves managing and leading a team of analysts to ensure that daily financial reporting is accurate and signed-off by the Front Office. The employee will act as the main liaison with Global Middle Office, Head Office Finance, Information Technology, Operations, Processing, Valuations and other operating units with issues related to the C&IB group. The AD must ensure that all daily and monthly accounting and reconciliations and attestations are performed and are accurate and complete. The AD will provide responses to requests from the Front Office, Risk, Valuations and Financial Control. The AD will also make assessments as to impact on existing processes and to streamline activities whenever possible. The AD also actively participates and leads the team in taking on the broader initiatives and projects sponsored by the bank.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Build and manage a team of senior analysts and Managers that produce daily P/L and perform risk-based decompositions to explain that P/L
Manage information flow of all business activity in accordance with the standing order to ensure that business partners obtain relevant information
Ensure that daily sign-off is obtained by the Front Office in a timely fashion
Attest to all monthly accounting entries to the G/L and conduct reconciliations to ensure figures are properly tied back to the systems of records and resolved in a timely fashion
Represent Product Control in meetings acting as business lead for specific projects relating to Front Office, IT, Finance initiatives
Develop and implement a strategic plan for consistent support across all business units through staff cross training
Review and sign-off on daily and monthly procedure manuals and documentation is complete and up to date for the area
Act as backup to the Director of C&IB Product Control
CHANGE MANAGEMENT FOR NEW PRODUCT IMPLEMENTATION AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS
Identify opportunities to improve Product Control processes and productivity
Manage and initiate the implementation of internal controls and ensure data integrity across systems and databases
Lead Product Control in new system initiatives and manage any implementation projects; provide sign-off from a PC when IT is implementing new systems or system upgrades
Ensure that any new initiatives/products have minimal impact to daily/monthly operations
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have:
Minimum five years of Product Control experience
Strong leadership, analytical, problem solving, communication and people management skills
Project Management experience and strong Change Management mindset
University degree and CA/CMA/CGA/CPA/CFA (or equivalent experience)
Accounting knowledge for on and off-balance sheet products a must
Proficient in Excel, Access and Word
Ability to solve and fix problems in a demanding environment with tight deadlines
Ability to work effectively and reliably under pressure
Advanced understanding of procedures and operational controls as they relate to trading systems and workflows
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance from director
Ability to make decisions and deal effectively with multiple stakeholders
Nice-to-have
