The Institute for Transforming Healthcare (ITH) at McGill University is dedicated to addressing key organizational and management challenges within Canada's healthcare system by integrating research, practice, and policy influence. Our mission is to generate actionable knowledge and practical solutions to critical healthcare challenges, such as access to family doctors, surgical delays, and emergency room overcapacity. By fostering innovative research, promoting evidence-based policy development, and facilitating meaningful dialogue among academia, healthcare providers, and policymakers, we aim to drive systemic improvements that enhance patient care and health outcomes across Canada. With secured sponsorship of $12.5 million over the next ten years, the Institute is poised to make a significant impact on healthcare delivery and policy. Key Milestones for the next 3 years:

• Onboarding Management and Administrative Staff: Key personnel in place (Months 1-3).
• First Roundtable Discussion: Initiating dialogue with stakeholders (Month 3).
• Recruitment of Fellows: Begin recruiting postdoctoral and master's-level fellows (Months 4-6).
• First Cohort Onboarded: Fellows commence research activities (Month 12).
• First Symposium: Presentation of initial findings and collaborative solution development (Month 24).
• Pilot Projects Launched: Implementation of solutions in real-world settings (Months 25-36).
• Second Symposium: Evaluation of pilot projects and planning for scaling (Month 36).
• Expansion of Programs and Partnerships: Ongoing beyond Month 36.

Position Summary:
The Associate Director, ITH will play a pivotal role in the leadership and management of the Institute. Working closely with the Director, the Associate Director will oversee the planning and implementation of important initiatives, ensure the efficient administration and operations of the ITH, and manage public relations efforts. This role involves financial management, human resources oversight, and the cultivation of external partnerships. The Associate Director will act as a key liaison between the Institute and various stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, funding organizations, and the broader community. The Associate Director will be the first administrative hire for the ITH and will work with the Director to build the team, as needed, and as resources allow.
Primary Responsibilities:
(i) Key senior leadership and financial administration

• Provide high-level support and senior professional expertise to the Academic Director with respect to matters related to the Institute's projects and overall strategy.
• Manage the activities of research teams affiliated with the Institute. This includes staff, researchers, postdocs, fellows, graduate students, research assistants, volunteers, and undergraduate students.

• Oversee the implementation of important action plans. These include: organizing a major annual conference as well as symposia and events; organizing the evaluation and allocation of research grants; ensure the production of reports and deliverables that align with the Institute's mission.

• Leading and overseeing the writing and submission of research grants and proposals to potential donors. Working closely with the Academic Director in engaging with key stakeholders.

• Establish the Institute's budget and spending priorities with the Academic Director, providing oversight of all aspects of the Institute's finances including operating and project-based budgets and implementation of the approved budget.

• Manage and authorize expenditures, ensuring funding for staffing of ongoing activities and ad hoc projects, monitoring budgetary progress throughout the year, ensuring compliance with McGill University policies.

(ii) Operational management

• Direct and manage human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and supervision of staff.

• Schedule and plan all projects and programming and keeping them on track.

• Oversee ITH's work processes in compliance with McGill University and government regulations.

• Review new contractual obligations, including with external consultants and service providers and monitor and maintain agreements.

(iii) External relations and communication

• Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with external stakeholders, partners, and other University units.

• Represent the Institute at internal and external meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

• Collaborate with Faculty-based communications and University Advancement teams to produce marketing materials. Contribute to producing ITH's material for Faculty marketing and fundraising efforts as well as annual reporting and ad hoc internal and/or external requests for information.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Education:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Preferred: PhD, MD, Master's degree in Management or related field (e.g., MBA, , Masters in Public Health, or other appropriate degree).

Experience:

• 3-5 years of managerial experience, preferably in a healthcare, academic, or research environment.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, financial management, and human resources oversight.
• Proven track record of building and managing partnerships with external stakeholders.
• Experience in health care services and/or policy research is an asset.

Skills and competencies:

• Strong understanding of healthcare systems and academic environments, including research processes and community engagement.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent communication skills in both English and French, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
• Leadership qualities that inspire collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to the Institute's mission.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
• Proficiency with financial management software, data analysis tools, and standard office applications
