Associate Dean, Indigenous Resurgence in Medicine and Wellness

, you'll be instrumental in embedding these core values into everything we do - from admissions and faculty recruitment to educational programming, curriculum, research, enterprise and community engagement. Your work will directly foster a culture of profound inclusion and engagement, advancing social justice within medical education and beyond.

This role is approved as a 0.4 FTE and the School of Medicine is happy to accommodate working arrangements (hours, location, hybrid/remote work, term length, etc) that are convenient for the successful candidate and allow balancing other commitments.

What You'll Do:



This role offers a far-reaching opportunity to shape the core identity of our School of Medicine. As Associate Dean, you will:

Lead the EDI Strategy:

Drive the advancement of the School's comprehensive Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy and Action Plan, alongside its critical decolonization and reconciliation goals as well as the strategy for the Community, Culture and Belonging section of the School and the Office of Indigenous Resurgence specifically

Infuse EDI, decolonization and reconciliation practices across the School:

Intentionally integrate EDI, decolonization and reconciliation principles into all areas, including: Admissions processes Clinical faculty and staff recruitment Educational programming and the learning environment Curriculum development Scholarly, research, and creative (SRC) activities Enterprise initiatives Patient, family, and community engagement

Provide Broad Guidance:

Demonstrate adaptability and versatility, offering expert guidance and leadership with a wide spectrum of Indigenous knowledge.

Collaborate and Lead:

Work both independently and in close collaboration with other Associate Deans and clinical faculty leads within the Community, Culture, and Belonging (CCB) Section. You'll also serve as an ex-officio member of the School of Medicine Council.

What You'll Bring:



Completion of a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent (i.e. MBBS). Proven leadership in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization, and reconciliation initiatives. Deep understanding and lived experience with Indigenous knowledge systems and communities. A minimum of 5 years of experience practising as a physician or combined clinical experience and additional formal post-graduate education totalling at least 5 years. Scholarly expertise in the area of Indigenous Health or equivalent clinical experience. The ability to provide strategic guidance and practical solutions across a complex organization. Exceptional collaborative and communication skills to engage diverse stakeholders. A strong commitment to social justice and fostering an inclusive environment.
