Please note: This is a temporary assignment ending one year after start date with the possibility of extension. This competition is limited to current NASA salaried NAIT staff within the School of Construction and Building Sciences.
Reporting to the Program Chair, Carpenter Apprenticeship and Advanced Carpentry Technology, the Associate Chair supports the Chair, often focusing on subsets of programs, assisting with daily operations, and sharing responsibilities in mentoring, scheduling, and quality assurance.
The Associate Chair also provides recommendations and support, but typically does not carry the same level of final accountability.
The successful candidate for this assignment will be an experienced supervisor/leader with a proven track record of success. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students and fulfill assigned teaching duties.
  • Collaborate with the chair in mentoring, coaching, and guiding instructors to enhance teaching excellence within the program.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of new instructors.
  • Engage with industry, external stakeholders, and other post-secondary institutions to ensure each program's curriculum and outcomes remain relevant and responsive to current needs.
  • Support program-level expertise development through participation in relevant committees, where possible.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, in collaboration with advising services.
  • Participate in student recruitment, retention, and program retention activities for all programs.
  • Collaborate with the Chair to strive for continual quality improvement and implement best practices in curriculum management, ensuring each program's relevance and quality.
  • Working with program chairs in the school, provide leadership in the areas of Academic Integrity, Applied Research & Scholarly Activity, and Management of casual faculty delivering classes through evening & weekend programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Carpenter journeyperson certification is required
  • Previous leadership/supervisory experience
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete orientation and encouraged to complete a variety of HR related training for the Chair assignment.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: As outlined in the NASA Collective Agreement.
