Associate I Bioinformatics

Intertek Assuris is looking for a motivated and client-focused professional to support our food, nutrition and regulatory consulting services. The Associate I Bioinformatics will work within a team to deliver innovative and bespoke assurance expertise that supports client projects focused on matters related to food ingredient compliance, regulations, guidance, and applicable statutes related to food ingredient approvals on a global basis, with emphasis on the North American marketplace. In this exciting role, the candidate will utilize their science background and general knowledge of in silico bioinformatics and genomic databases; learn the regulations governing food ingredients in different countries globally; develop their project management and client relations experience; work with a team of experienced regulatory affairs/scientific subject matter experts; and become a valued partner for our clients in the food industry.

Responsibilities * Review information from searches and/or provided by project managers (includes identifying and reviewing company reports/published articles and speaking with other scientists/project managers); required to use own initiative to make sure that selected materials are complete.

  • Summarize and extract relevant information from the scientific literature, critically review data for completeness and relevance, and prepare conclusions based on scientific literature to be incorporated in a meaningful manner as part of global regulatory submissions.
  • Conduct literature searches using electronic search engines or manually through public scientific databases (e.g., PubMed).
  • Perform in silico bioinformatics analyses using web-based and computer-based tools, including, but not limited to, NCBI BLAST.
  • Navigate genomic databases (GenBank, UniProt) to identify pertinent information in support of bioinformatic evaluation of food ingredients
  • Review scientific literature on a regular basis to keep informed on the use of in silico tools in risk assessment of food ingredients.
  • Provide technical support in the preparation and submission of global regulatory reports and dossier submissions.
  • Work efficiently to meet client/government deadlines, keeping project managers and other members of the team updated on project progress.
  • Assist senior scientific staff with special requests.
Qualifications

EXTERNAL EDUCATION
  • B.Sc. with 0 to 1 years of experience. Preference will be given to candidates with academic specialization in the area of molecular biology, synthetic biology, microbiology, biological sciences, bioinformatics, or related discipline.
  • Additional specialization in an area of toxicology, pharmacology, chemistry, allergenicity, and regulatory knowledge will be an asset but not required.
