Assistive Technology Trainer

Job Location: Academic Services, 345 Livingston Street East., Barrie, Ontario

Position Type / Hours: Full-Time Permanent. Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours weekly, plus overtime as required

Annual Compensation: $55,913 to $62,902 commensurate with education, skills and experience.

Under the direction of the Assistant to the Superintendent of Special Education, this role is responsible for enhancing the learning experience by developing, scheduling, and delivering training on SEA (Special Equipment Amount) technology and learning strategies for staff and students. The role also oversees the management of software subscription accounts and maintains a public-facing website with resources and training materials to ensure effective access to assistive technology. The position also requires significant travel to deliver training across a wide geographic area.

The successful candidate will be expected to:



? Provide orientation and training for students on new devices (e.g., computers, Chromebooks, iPads, Eyegaze, Switches) and assistive technology software.

?Deliver training on both built-in accessibility features and specialized programs to support individual student learning needs.

?Ensure students can effectively use technology to access the curriculum and participate fully in learning activities.

?Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and data collection related to Special Equipment Amount (SEA) training.

?Provide comprehensive technical support for Special Equipment Amount (SEA) technology, including troubleshooting, resetting Chromebooks, updating software, and resolving connectivity and password issues.

?Customize accessibility features on iPads, Chromebooks, and computers to meet individual student needs.

?Coordinate with IT to request app access, and manage software installations, updates, and removals.

?Perform iPad backups and assist schools in maintaining accurate SEA technology inventories.

?Create, document, assign, and manage software subscription accounts for staff and students (e.g., Boardmaker, Clicker, HelpKidzLearn).

?Coordinate and schedule training, and troubleshoot end-user software concerns across multiple schools.

?Support the initiation and consultation process for SEA technology claims, ensuring proper software and hardware are submitted for approval and purchase.

?Collaborate with vendors and external agencies (e.g., One Kids Place, The Common Roof, Bloorview) to remain informed about assistive technology and related services.

?Participate in ongoing professional learning, including conferences, webinars, and networking with colleagues, other school boards, and vendors to stay current on emerging technology trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications:



The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experiences to the role:

?Diploma or degree from an accredited post secondary institution in education or computer science (or equivalent).

?Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related experience supporting students with disabilities and/or implementing assistive technology.

?Strong understanding of the K-12 Ontario Curriculum and special education protocols, including IEP development and implementation.

?Proven experience supporting students with disabilities and promoting inclusive learning environments.

?Working knowledge of assistive technology tools and accessibility features across various learner profiles.

?Proficiency with PC, Mac, and Chrome OS platforms and online applications (e.g., Google Workspace for Education, word processing, accessibility tools).

?Familiarity with adult learning principles and experience delivering training and professional development.

?Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to engage with students, educators, and families.

?Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

?Effective organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

?Demonstrated dependability, adaptability, and confidentiality when handling sensitive student information.

?Collaborative mindset and ability to work with cross-functional teams, including IT, educators, and external agencies.

?Valid Ontario Driver's License and ability to travel regularly between schools.
