About the Role

And most importantly, are you a collaborative, present servant leader with a technical engineering background and a track record of leading a facilities team with tact, diplomacy, energy, and passion?

The AVP of Facilities is responsible for planning, program management and implementation of best practices for all aspects of building engineering, maintenance, security and housekeeping. The second primary role is involvement in the strategic implementation of an overall capital development plan for the Museum, which includes preventative maintenance planning, repair and rehabilitation capital budgeting, as well as current and future building needs, requirements, acquisition and development.

Reporting into the Chief of Facilities, the AVP will be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day facilities matters at the ROM, including oversight of a multi-million dollar capital budget dedicated to capital projects related to service, maintenance and engineering of the existing facilities. Leading a team that includes unionized staff engineers and mechanics, as well as a large housekeeping team and its manager and team leads, the AVP will oversee a team that is dedicated and committed to ensuring the visitor experience at the ROM is world-class to everyone that walks through their doors.

This is an incredible opportunity for a facilities leader who has an immense amount of pride and satisfaction leading by example. The ROM and its combined square feet of buildings date from 1917 up to and including the construction of the \xe2\x80\x98crystal\xe2\x80\x99 in 2005, and the complexity of the heritage buildings and necessary capital improvement projects require a leader who thrives working shoulder to shoulder with their engineering, maintenance and housekeeping teams.

The ROM hosts more than 300 events a year in addition to regular programming, and unique events like RAD (ROM After Dark) offer unique, exciting challenges for this facilities leader.

About The Team

  • Strong people person. 50-person union environment. Other site of the union works for security. Need someone who empowers people\xe2\x80\xa6. Give them authority to lead.
  • One manager of housekeeping, 36 people reporting to that person. (Jeanette), plus four lead hands
  • Facilities side \xe2\x80\x93 three engineers, two mechanics per shift (day shift has three). Etobicoke and Oakville \xe2\x80\x93 remote sites. He\xe2\x80\x99s the project management team. Brian\xe2\x80\x99s working on a couple of projects \xe2\x80\xa6 conception to execution\xe2\x80\xa6 get the money through government grants. RFP process\xe2\x80\xa6. Works with procurement\xe2\x80\xa6. Involved in bringing it out, on the evaluation team with procurement.
  • Housekeepers, facilities, maintenance, corners, nooks and crannies.
About You
  • The ideal candidate will be a facilities leader with a technical (mechanical engineering) background and education
  • A collaborative facilities leader with a track record of empowering their team(s) with a sense of pride and ownership.
  • Leadership experience working in a high-traffic, high-priority facilities environment, such as universities and/or other educational institutions, hospitals, LTC facilities, or other large tourism and landmark travel destinations
  • Demonstrable success acting as a collaborative partner with other functions, including procurement, guest and client services, and so on. It is critical that the AVP knows how to prioritize & maintain great relationships with other departments & department heads.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations for public buildings (TSSA, CSA standards).
  • Experience with government relations and grant requests, and the RFP process
  • Project management experience, from conception to execution, and with managing a multi-million dollar facilities budget
  • Poise and efficiency managing high-priority last-minute requests and requirements
  • A passion for the arts! Given the nature of the ROM and its prestigious reputation status as a cultural institution, this leader will constantly have client interaction & needs to be an ambassador for the ROM.
