Assistant Teacher – Movement
Do you enjoy physical activity? Are you passionate about sport? Kids U has a unique program where we offer a movement class to children in our Jr. Preschool and Preschool program and we are looking for energetic, enthusiastic individuals to join our movement team!

Kids U is a growing Accredited Early Childhood Learning Institute in Calgary and Strathmore. For children aged zero to six, we offer best-in-class child care as well as preschool and kindergarten programs that build experiences and influence the development of executive functions. Our specialized movement curriculum gets children on track to a healthy and active lifestyle. Through group games, sports, basic movement skills, nutritional guidance, and plenty of outdoor exercises, our gym classes promote both a healthy body and a healthy mind. As an Assistant Teacher, you will support in facilitating individual and group activities to promote and enhance gross motor skills and coordination. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Support the Lead Teacher in planning individual and group activities that develop gross motor skills and physical development for multi-level competencies.
  • Assess the physical skill of the student (foot placement, arm placement, body placement when landing, etc.)
  • Adjust curricula to adapt to students with disabilities or different physical abilities in order to create a positive experience for all students.
  • Supervise students during high-risk activities, while ensuring a safe environment inside the classroom and outdoor programming.
  • Encourage children through role modeling and guidance to respect themselves and others
  • Spark imagination, build self-esteem, and encourage children to enrich their everyday experiences using the environment as the third teacher
  • Work collaboratively with others across the campus, initiate conversations and meetings when necessary to ensure collaborative engagement in regard to children’s care.
  • Make a difference in the lives of young children every day!
  • Assist children with self-help skills, including toileting and diapering.
  • Ability to lift a min. of 40 lbs especially when working with infants and toddlers

What You Bring (Preferred Skills and Qualifications)

  • Early Childhood Education or related experience.
  • Background or education in kinesiology is an asset.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (may be obtained upon hire)
  • Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, within the past 6 months
  • Knowledge and understanding of children's gross motor skills and how to incorporate them into games and activities.
  • Positive attitude, enthusiastic, engaging, adaptable, and a passion for working with children.
  • Displays interest in physical activity, experience playing/participating in sports, and/or fitness.
  • Ability to manage, supervise and interact with large groups of children.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Physical labor, including the ability to lift up to 40lbs and moving heavy objects.
  • Experience with, or willing to learn, basic care of children (feeding, diapering, sleeping).
