Position Overview:
The Assistant Store Manager plays a key leadership role at Amaranth by supporting day-to-day store operations and providing guidance across all departments. This role assists with team supervision, customer service excellence, staff development, operational problem-solving, merchandising execution, receiving, and inventory control. Acting as a support to the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager helps foster a positive, efficient, and service-oriented environment aligned with Amaranth's mission to create a better way for us to eat, live, and thrive.

Priority Accountabilities:
Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable (LMA):
Guide, train, and support store team members across all departments. Maintain clear standards, deliver feedback, and lead by example in customer service, performance, and teamwork.
Customer Service Excellence:
Model and uphold high service standards, including taking customers directly to products, answering product inquiries, and providing backup at tills and bagging stations during high-volume times.
Operations Support:
Proactively respond to daily operational needs such as break coverage, shift shortages, and team coordination.
Sales Growth:
Educate the team on product knowledge, encourage engagement with promotions and education sessions, and track Health First training completion.
Inventory Accuracy & Merchandising:
Collaborate with department leads to ensure product availability, accurate receiving, merchandising of promotions and seasonal displays, and database alignment with physical stock.
Secondary Accountabilities:
Participate in recruitment and support performance management of store staff.
Attend monthly L10 meetings with HR to identify training needs.
Act as a point of contact for store-wide policy and procedure clarification.
Lead the onboarding and training of new hires and oversee continued development of all staff.
Coordinate with Category Managers on promotional execution and end cap displays.
Assist with preparation and execution of Customer Appreciation Days (CAD) and Taste the Savings (TTS) events.
Report and follow up on damaged, mis-shipped, or poor-quality products.
Help manage repair coordination and quotes for store equipment and fixtures.
Tactical Responsibilities:
Train staff in POS operations, ensure till areas are clean, stocked, and organized.
Process transactions accurately and inform customers about store programs and promotions.
Monitor and motivate performance through clear communication of sales targets and expectations.
Assist and coach team leads and clerks on best practices for receiving, including shipment verification and system entry.
Run inventory reports (e.g., discrepancy, negative inventory), compare database values to physical stock, and follow up accordingly.
Ensure consistent organization and safety across tills, back stock, and shipping areas, keeping aisles and workspaces clear.
Use ladders (up to 12 ft), mops, cleaning tools, box cutters, and other store equipment safely and appropriately.
Maintain regular updates and compliance with Health First training and quizzes.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Minimum 1 year of experience in a retail leadership role
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Intermediate computer skills, including database and POS operation
Knowledge of natural/organic products is an asset
Background in nutrition, herbalism, or homeopathy is a plus
Ability to think independently, follow procedures, and adapt in a dynamic setting
Clear commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement
Time Requirements:
Full-time hourly position (30-40 hours per week)
Flexible availability required: days, evenings, weekends, and coverage as needed
30-minute unpaid meal break for shifts over 5 consecutive hours
Basic Physical Requirements:
Stand for extended periods
Walk, bend, twist, reach above and below shoulders
Repetitive use of hands (grasping, pushing, pulling, typing)
Use of mops, brooms, knives, cleaning products, box cutters, carts, computers, printers
Use of ladders up to 12 feet
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (support with carts and team available)
Exposure to cooler, freezer, and outdoor environments
