Assistant Steward - Finance Start Date: As soon as possible. Duration of Appointment: Full-Time, Regular The Union of British Columbia Performers (UBCP/ACTRA) is an autonomous branch of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) the national organization of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of 28,000 members across Canada. UBCP/ACTRA is seeking an Assistant Steward \xe2\x80\x93 Finance to join our team. Working within a collaborative, team environment, the Assistant Steward \xe2\x80\x93 Finance will provide overall support to the department. Key responsibilities include reconciling general ledger accounts, assisting with bank reconciliations, paring down the vendor list, detailed analysis of high-volume transactions and assisting with year-end requirements. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, type a minimum of 50 WPM, be proficient with the MS Suite and be familiar with standard debit/credit accounting procedures, enjoy and have a decent proficiency with numbers and be skilled at discovering variances. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs general ledger account analyses and reconciliations as required.
  • Performs all bank account reconciliations monthly.
  • Re-issues all stale-dated \xe2\x80\x98No Known Address\' cheques as required.
  • Balances the monthly investment account statements.
  • Liaises with the FTV and Commercials Assistant Stewards on payroll loading errors.
  • Residuals postings and verifications for all Canadian and US bank accounts.
  • Deposits all e-transfers on a daily basis.
  • Assists in preparing year-end audit working files and liaison during process with auditors.
  • Assists in developing and producing accounting reports.
  • Performs other duties as necessary that are related to accounting and support functions.
  • Assists in mail outs, as required.
  • Attends Membership Meetings, if required in the rotation.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Employer.
  • Reports to the Employer.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Educational background and industry-related knowledge and experience will be considered in assessing applicants in accordance with Article 13.03 of the UBCP/UNIFOR Collective Agreement.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working in accounting.
  • Must have experience doing high-volume bank reconciliations.
  • Must have experience dealing with large volumes of data, downloading, formatting and reconciling.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Keyboard minimum 50 WPM.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Intermediate computer skills using MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook), and experience with Sage 50 is an asset.
  • Sensitivity and judgment in the handling of confidential information.
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve, show initiative, and take ownership of tasks.
  • Intermediate understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and modern banking processes.
  • Exceptional administrative and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Reports to: Manager of Finance Direct Reports: None Engages with: Executive Board Executive Administrative Director Management Team UBCP/ACTRA Staff UBCP/ACTRA Members OTHER: HOURS OF WORK: 5 days per week (35 hours). Regular office hours M-F 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. SALARY: This position has a current annual salary of $78,211.80 pursuant to Appendix \xe2\x80\x9cA\xe2\x80\x9d of the UBCP/ACTRA/Unifor Local 3000 Collective Agreement.
