Position Description

The Labatt Family Heart Centre is looking for an Assistant Research Technologist. The Assistant Research Technologist will work closely with the Research Manager and Principal Investigator and is responsible for applying scientific and technical knowledge and skills to perform laboratory research techniques and procedures related to fetal-placental cardiovascular physiology and function.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
Participate in artificial placenta experiments involving piglets and other animal models
Assist with planned projects focusing on congenital heart defects and neurodevelopment
Perform echocardiography imaging and analysis of fetal piglet/artificial placenta experimental data
Assist in MRI data collection, analysis and interpretation
Research/clinical data collection and entry into databases across projects
Set up and maintain lab equipment
Assist in developing, devising or improving existing methods, practices and standard operating procedures
Communicate and maintain records of experimental data
Assume responsibility for accuracy of techniques using established policies and procedures to resolve technical problems
Assist and/or train students and other lab personnel
Assist in writing sections of grant proposals
Write abstracts and manuscripts for scientific publication
Here's What You'll Need
Bachelor of Science degree (minimum) or equivalent experience
Demonstrate competency in written and verbal communication
Prior experience with MRI and echocardiographic image analysis; experience with piglet handling and medication administration/blood draws an asset
Prior knowledge and experience with medical image analysis software (e.g. Circle Cardiovascular Imaging, Mimics Materialise, ITK-SNAP, syngo Dynamics or equivalent)
Prior knowledge and experience with routine statistical analysis (ANOVA, t-tests, correlations) & statistical programs (PRISM, STATA, R)
