We are seeking an entry level
Radiation Technician
to provide radiation safety and decontamination services to maintain the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements. The candidate will carry out special projects and participate in work planning and execution under the guidance of senior technicians or radiation safety officers. They will perform the decontamination of equipment and materials with strict adherence to established procedures. This involves following specific protocols for chemical and mechanical cleaning to ensure the removal or inactivation of harmful contaminants. They will monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of radiation equipment instruments and control devices, critical for minimizing radiation risks and ensuring a safe workplace. This position requires a strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a commitment to upholding safety standards in all aspects of your work.
The Assistant Radiation Technician base hourly rate is approximately $35.00. In addition to the hourly wage, there is 3 weeks of Vacation, Statutory Holiday Pay, Extended Health Benefits Plan and a self-directed RRSP Retirement Fund. This entry-level position provides a foundation for career advancement in radiation protection. With experience and further training, junior technicians can progress to more senior roles, such as Senior Technician, Radiation Safety Officer or Health Physicist. Short-term relocation assistance is available.
Deliverables
Conducting regular radiation surveys and monitoring of work areas, equipment, and personnel using specialized detection equipment.
Maintaining and calibrating radiation detection and monitoring equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Assisting with the decontamination of equipment, tools, and potentially contaminated materials using established procedures.
Handling and managing radioactive waste according to established protocols, including segregation, packaging, and storage.
Maintaining accurate records of radiation surveys, decontamination activities, and personnel exposure.
Ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations, procedures, and protocols.
Assisting senior technicians and other radiation protection staff in various tasks related to radiation safety.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent).
Two years of community college in a Technician/Technologist discipline or equivalent.
Knowledge of radiation safety and radiation physics and its practical application in industrial or energy settings.
Familiarity with federal and provincial nuclear safety regulations, CNSC guidance documents, and industry best practices.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-consequence environments.
