Job Details

Position Title: Assistant Program Head, Justice Studies

Status: Full Time Administration

Hours: 37.5 hours weekly

Faculty/Department: University of Guelph-Humber, Justice Studies

Campus: North Campus, full-time on campus (5 days)

Salary: (Hiring Range) $82,782.00 - $103,411.00

What you will do:

Under the general direction of the Program Head, the Assistant Program Head supports the Program Head by providing academic and administrative leadership in their program areas as required. Administrative duties include assisting with sta\xef\xac\x83ng, budgets, recruitment and student life activities, while liaising with both partner institutions, the University of Guelph and Humber ITAL. Academic duties include teaching and curriculum development. The incumbent is required to act as Program Head when necessary. This position holds particular responsibility for ensuring that the professional and academic components of the program are respected and promoted within each of the partner institutions.

Qualifications

What you bring to the role:

Education

  • An earned Masters related to the program discipline is required. A doctoral degree or a doctoral degree in progress is preferred.
Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will have:
  • A minimum of four years of substantive postsecondary teaching experience in topics related to the program curriculum.
  • A minimum of three years of administrative supervisory experience with demonstrated administrative and team management capability, preferably including experience in the higher education sector.
  • In this role the incumbent must both initiate ideas and review proposals. This requires a clear understanding of the emerging trends in justice including technology and cyber-security, social issues and youth, and international issues related to the Canadian justice system.
In addition, the successful candidate will have/be:
  • An educator with a strong commitment to pedagogy, student engagement and curricular excellence in the post-secondary area.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting curriculum planning and academic program delivery.
  • Excellent awareness and a commitment to considering equity, diversity, and inclusion in decision making, and communication approaches.
  • Able to demonstrate an awareness of the vision and purpose of this university and college joint venture.
  • An understanding of the importance of inter-department/disciplinary collaboration as well as an awareness of issues such as student demographics, budget implications, and recruiting.
  • The ability to prioritize and respond to situations in a timely manner and mediate conflicting interests.
  • A high standard of professionalism in personal interactions with staff, faculty, and students, and instill, by example, an expectation of high standards in colleagues.
  • The ability to remain impartial when dealing with students, faculty, staff, especially in reviewing academic matters.
  • The ability to delegate, motivate, and provide opportunities for others.
  • A high level of emotional intelligence.
Activities:
  • Support the Program Head in leading all aspects of the Honours Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies degree programs.
  • Act as a liaison mentor to student led societies and justice related activities.
  • Teach within the program.
  • Assist with departmental activities that promote student success and alumni engagement.
  • Support the quality assurance processes within the university by administering a continuous curriculum improvement strategy.
  • Participate in the programs curriculum committee to strengthen the academic program through curricular innovation and renewal.
  • Work to enhance university presence internationally by promoting opportunities for domestic students.
  • Develop and implement program and curriculum initiatives to support equity, inclusion, diversity and decolonization.
  • Represent the university on a variety of campus committees.
  • Advocate for, and provide mentorship to, staff, faculty, and students, as appropriate.
  • Support recruitment and placement activities.
  • Advance initiatives to enhance the program, experiential learning, and career readiness.
  • Participate in Student Life and orientation activities throughout the year.
  • Support the Program Head in the management of staffing, budget, and financial resources related to the degree programs.
